Match Preview

Williams in for Walsall New signing Tom Williams is poised to make his Walsall debut in what is a huge relegation clash against fellow strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge. Williams on Monday morning penned a deal with the Saddlers until the end of the season and has now been handed the relevant clearance to feature at the Banks`s Stadium. Manager Dean Smith has no new injury or suspension concerns following Saturday`s narrow 1-0 defeat to high-flying Bournemouth and will be desperate for all three points against the Daggers as 23rd meets 22nd in League One. Walsall find themselves just one point behind John Still`s men and victory on Tuesday could put them within one win of safety. Long-term absentee Darren Byfield remains the only player on the sidelines although he is now working on his fitness with a view to returning to a substitute role as soon as possible. Dagenham boss John Still will welcome Danny Green back into his squad. The 22-year-old midfielder has missed the last three games through suspension following his sending-off against MK Dons on January 22, but could go straight back into the starting line-up to face the Saddlers. Defender Scott Doe is doubtful with an arm injury sustained during the 2-1 win over Yeovil on Saturday. However, he will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness and will undergo a fitness test prior to kick-off. Midfielder Peter Gain will sit out the second game of his three-match ban following his sending-off at Oldham on February 5, while striker Josh Scott is out for the rest of the season with a blood clot.

Match Report

Saddlers unseat Daggers Walsall substitute Will Grigg grabbed the only goal of the game nine minutes from time in a hard-fought relegation battle against Dagenham at the Banks's stadium. The Northern Ireland Under-21 international came on in the 74th minute with the Daggers hanging on under waves of pressure from the hosts. He scored his second goal of the season from the edge of the box when veteran striker Jon Macken laid the ball into his path. Walsall missed a string of chances in the first half. Macken shot wide in the 13th minute and again five minutes later before Matt Richards saw his shot saved by Tony Roberts just after the half-hour mark. The Daggers packed everyone back in the search of a point hoping to extend their unbeaten run to four games. Macken should have scored in the 52nd-minute but failed to beat Roberts from close range. At the other end, the visitors relied mainly on set pieces and long throws. But Grigg had the last word to give Walsall a lifeline in their fight to stay up.
