Match Preview

Motormen missing vital parts Vauxhall Motors boss Carl Macauley will be missing a handful of players for his side`s FA Cup first-round replay at home to Hartlepool. Goalkeeper Scott Tynan remain sidelined for another three to four weeks after he required 13 stitches to seal up a gash to his leg sustained following a late challenge from Hartlepool club captain Ritchie Humphreys during the first game between the sides. Jon Ritchie is set to deputise between the posts as recent signing Kyle Clancy is ineligible, while three others players remain sidelined by injury. They are Alan Griffiths, Brian Moogan and Jonathan Egerton but the Motormen are eyeing an upset against the League One outfit. Chairman Alan Bartlam said: "It's got to be the biggest game ever to be staged in Ellesmere Port as it's the first time a league side will have visited the town to play a competitive match." Hartlepool caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth is once again without Ritchie Humphreys. Humphreys was sent off in the first meeting between the two sides and after having his appeal against the dismissal rejected he serves the final game of his three-match suspension and is unavailable. Despite his side's impressive 3-1 win over League One leaders Brighton at the weekend, Wadsworth has changes in mind for the trip to the non-league minnows. James Poole scored his first senior goal on Saturday and could be handed a starting opportunity while Leon McSweeney and Fabian Yantorno are also pressing their claims for a first-team start. James Brown made his return from an ankle injury against Gus Poyet's men and is likely to keep his place up front while fellow striker Adam Boyd is also pushing for a recall to the first XI.

Match Report

Brown in right place for Pools Substitute James Brown earned Hartlepool United a spot in the second round of the FA Cup and a home tie with Yeovil as they finally saw off plucky Vauxhall Motors in a 1-0 win. The League One side laboured through the first game, a tame 0-0 draw, and the replay was heading in the same direction. But Brown's 56th minute introduction sparked Pool into life and he was rewarded with a goal 14 minutes later. After Andy Monkhouse was denied a first-half opener by keeper John Ritchie, the Conference North side went close to an opener when Andy Nicholas headed wide from close range. Pool defender Neil Austin clipped a free-kick against the crossbar, but then The Motormen had a real purple patch with striker Obi Anorou somehow missed a trio of chances. First goalkeeper Jake Kean got a touch to knock his shot onto a post, then he prodded against a defender just six yards from goal. Next up he somehow missed his kick when presented with an open goal in the 48th minute. Brown almost scored shortly after his arrival, curling wide from 20 yards and Antony Sweeney did likewise. But when Evan Horwood crossed from the left on 70 minutes, Brown was able to plant a header across Ritchie into the net. Pool should have made it two when Monkhouse's finish was kept out by the legs of Ritchie. Again standing close to goal, again unmarked, he prodded wide.
