Match Report

Leeds United made three unsuccessful bids before the transfer deadline to sign Tranmere winger Steve Davies and Yeovil were left rueing the fact that the move didn't go through.

In the sixth minute of stoppage time, with the Glovers clinging to a slender lead, controversial referee Ray Lee gave the Rovers a free-kick on the edge of the box and Davies stepped up to slam the ball home.

Yeovil's manager Russell Slade stormed "It was never a free-kick. There was no contact at all and if the referee is honest, when he sees the video, he will hold his hands up and say 'I made a mistake'."

Both sides hit the woodwork early on. In the ninth minute Yeovil's Paul Warne volleyed against the underside of the bar and ten minutes later, at the other end, the lively Davies saw a fierce 25-yard drive flick on to the bar and away for a corner by goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall.

There was a double blow for the home side early on. On 20 minutes they lost midfielder Justin Cochrane with a leg injury and two minutes later big striker Lloyd Owusu was knocked unconscious in a clash of heads with Ian Goodison and had to be replaced.

Yeovil battled bravely and on 57 minutes took the lead. Substitute Darryl Knights flicked the ball to Marcus Stewart and the former Premiership striker rolled back the years by cutting inside from the right and hammering the ball past keeper Danny Coyne from outside the box.

Ronnie Moore, the Tranmere boss, also criticised the referee and in particular, for his use of the yellow card, which saw three Rovers booked.

But he said: "When Russell Slade wakes up in the morning he will be happy with a point."
