Match Preview

Goodison return boosts Parry Tranmere boss Les Parry is boosted by the return of defender Ian Goodison for the home clash with Brentford. The veteran Jamaica international missed last weekend`s defeat at Southampton through suspension but could make an immediate return to the starting line-up. Rovers are still hit hard by injury and rookie midfielder Joss Labadie, a regular in Parry's starting line-up this season, faces a lay-off of several weeks after sustaining ankle ligament damage. Ian Thomas-Moore, Marlon Broomes, Adam McGurk and Liam Darville are all back in training after spells on the sidelines. However, Ash Taylor, Alan Mahon and Arnaud Mendy remain sidelined and on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen is expected to be unavailable for a further three weeks. Parry hopes to extend Peter Gulacsi's loan from Liverpool as a result. Brentford are without Nicky Forster for the trip. The veteran striker this week went under the knife to clear up a long-standing groin problem, and although he will not be sidelined for long boss Andy Scott has ruled him out for Saturday. Scott is still without hamstring injury-victim Robbie Simpson and Carl Cort, who has seen a specialist about his Achilles problem. But fellow frontman Gary Alexander has shaken off an ankle knock and is likely to start in Forster's place. There will be a place on the bench up for grabs after Nicky Adams completed his surprise move to Rochdale on Thursday, less than two months after joining the Bees from Leicester. Winger Sam Saunders could therefore be added to the squad.

Match Report

Bees sting sorry Tranmere Brentford moved off the foot of the npower League One table with a comprehensive 3-0 victory which ensured Tranmere replaced them at the bottom. Charlie MacDonald had the ball in the net in the fifth minute for the Londoners but it was ruled out for a foul on Scott Wootton. Two minutes later Brentford did go ahead from the penalty spot after Aaron Cresswell handled a Craig Woodman cross. Kevin O'Connor fired low into the corner of the net. O'Connor scored his second with a free-kick from long range in the second half and Marcus Bean put the icing on the cake with a third goal. After O'Connor had opened the scoring from the spot, Dale Jennings twice missed the target as Tranmere tried in vain to get back on terms before the break. It needed a good save by Bees keeper Ben Hamer to turn aside an Enoch Showunmi effort for the home side approaching the hour-mark. Then Lucas Akins just missed the target from long range. The Merseysiders were rocked by a second Brentford goal after 66 minutes. A free-kick by O'Connor from fully 35 yards found it's way through a pack of players and sneaked just inside the far post. And Bean made it three in the 81st minute from a low cross by MacDonald to complete a miserable afternoon for the home side.
