A mazy break from Belhadj left the full-back in space in the Spurs half and his angled, deep cross almost found the run of Crouch but again Gomes was out early to thwart the attack.

Defoe forces a save with a hopeful flick after an angled ball from Hughes seemed a little out of his reach but the outstretched right leg almost turned it past Gomes but the keeper was alive to the situation and saved comfortably.

Best effort of the game so far - Dawson tackles Defoe in the box but it fell to Hughes who struck left-footed, on the stretch, with tremendous power and Gomes parried infront of him but Woodgate cleared before Crouch could pounce.

Early warnings for Spurs as Crouch flicks the ball onto Defoe who is in acres of space and went on to finish but the assistant disallowed for offside - It was a good decsion but Tottenham were lucky to get away with that kind of marking.
