Match Report

All eyes will be on under-fire Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol in this weekend's blue riband fixture.

The Dutchman's future has been in serious doubt since Spurs lost their first two games of the season - and even following the 4-0 drubbing of Derby County last Saturday.

An emergency board meeting was called on Tuesday, following which the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy announced that Jol's job is safe - for now.

"We want Champions League football. We have made a massive investment in the squad and as a result we have the best squad of players this club has had for over 20 years and they are equally hungry for success and silverware," Levy's statement read.

However, a day later Sevilla manager Juande Ramos stoked up the fire by suggesting that he had been approached by Spurs.

Jol will have to hope that the pressure will fire up his side for a fixture which Tottenham have failed to win since 2001.

The line-up could be the same as last weekend as they wait for the return of a number of key players, including last year's top-scorer Dimitar Berbatov.

Their efforts will be helped by Cristiano Ronaldo's three-match ban. The forward called his sentence "unjust" after a dubious sending-off in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.

Television replays showed minimal contact between Ronaldo and Richard Hughes after the Portuguese had aimed a headbutt at the Pompey midfielder.

That result was followed by last Sunday's dismal 1-0 defeat to Manchester City which left the Red Devils with just two points from their opening three games.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is already worried at the distance between his side and the top of the table as rivals Chelsea lie in second place, five points ahead of last year's champions.

"We have to get a win under our belts. We have Tottenham on Sunday. That has become a very important game for us," he claimed.

Unwanted distraction has also come from defender Gabriel Heinze, whose Premier League hearing ruled that United could not be forced to sell him to Liverpool, however he has now left for Real Madrid.

However, it will be up front where the home side could struggle with Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha and Anderson all injured. New recruits Nani and Carlos Tevez should start for the second time in two games.
