Match Preview
Gomes missing for Spurs Tottenham will be without goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes for their Barclays Premier League game with Wigan. Gomes faces a short spell on the sidelines after injuring his groin in Wednesday night's Champions League play-off round second leg against Young Boys, meaning Carlo Cudicini will deputise. Manager Harry Redknapp must decide whether to play captain Ledley King after his midweek exertions, Luka Modric (groin) is still out, Jamie O'Hara (back) and Jonathan Woodgate are long-term absentees, but David Bentley (ankle) is set to return to training on Monday. Having demolished the Latics 9-1 in last season's corresponding fixture and facing a side who have conceded 10 goals in their opening two games, complacency can hardly ever have been a greater danger. Redknapp, who praised Wigan chairman Dave Whelan for backing under-fire manager Roberto Martinez, said: "We've been down this road lots of times before, where people expect you to win, and these are always the most difficult games." He added: "That's what the good teams do. Good teams play in Europe - Champions League - and they come out and play in the league as well." Victor Moses will miss Wigan's trip after damaging ankle ligaments in his side's midweek Carling Cup victory over Hartlepool. The England Under-21 international is set to be out of action for two to three weeks, having only just returned after a calf injury. Steven Caldwell is set to make his Barclays Premier League debut for the club at White Hart Lane but his brother Gary remains sidelined following hip surgery. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez admits his side must improve on their "naive" defending so far this season as they prepare to head to a ground where they conceded nine goals last year. The Latics have started the 2010-11 Barclays Premier League campaign with 4-0 and 6-0 home defeats to Blackpool and Chelsea respectively, following on from an 8-0 hammering at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti's team on the final day of last season. They kept a clean sheet in midweek - albeit at npower League One side Hartlepool in the Carling Cup - but now face a return to Tottenham, where they were crushed 9-1 last season. Martinez refuses to compromise on playing positive football but insists his men must wise up at the back. "I never go for a damage-limitation result, I always want to win and sometimes you are more exposed in that way," he said. "We are very naive and we are still not ready in that department, and it is something we need to sort out very quickly. We need to be a bit different off the ball, a bit more ruthless and a bit more focused. "You cannot concede cheap goals in the manner that we are doing at the moment. "We are not far away from becoming a very good side but that has to come with hard work on the training ground and with commitment and focus. We have got that in abundance so I am excited, I am really looking forward to the challenge."

Match Report
Rodallega lifts Latics Wigan put their horrendous start to the Barclays Premier League season behind them with a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory at Tottenham. Hugo Rodallega scored the winner 10 minutes from full-time after Carlo Cudicini allowed the striker tame shot to squirm past him in what was the goalkeeper's first start since his horrific motorcycle accident. It was a remarkable result for a Latics side who had conceded 10 goals in their opening two Premier League games and nine in the corresponding fixture last season. It also cast doubt on Spurs boss Harry Redknapp's claim that he has a squad capable of competing both domestically and in the Champions League. Indeed, Redknapp's fears about complacency following last season's goal glut against the Latics and Wednesday night's historic European victory against Young Boys appeared to have been realised. Spurs made a sluggish start and Rodallega flashed an early warning shot wide before poor defending from an eighth-minute corner saw Steve Gohouri smash the ball against the crossbar from Mauro Boselli's knockdown. Tottenham were conceding possession in dangerous areas, while a clumsy defensive clearance nearly ricocheted past Cudicini. The home side eventually got going and Jermain Defoe was given the freedom of the Wigan penalty box to fire a low shot which brought the best out of Ali Al Habsi, the on-loan Bolton keeper starting ahead of Chris Kirkland, who was not in the squad. On the half hour mark, Michael Dawson became the first player booked for cutting down Mohamed Diame 25 yards from goal. The visitors were demonstrating the kind of defensive nous sadly lacking in their opening two Premier League thrashings, with Peter Crouch effectively shackled by Gohouri and Antolin Alcaraz. Crouch did clip a ball through to Defoe five minutes before the break, which the latter poked narrowly wide with the outside of his right foot. Hendry Thomas joined Dawson in the book after felling Aaron Lennon shortly before a disappointing half drew to a close. Spurs made a double-substitution at half-time, bringing on Roman Pavyluchenko and Niko Kranjcar for Crouch and Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Despite a comfortable first half, Wigan would have been wary it was only 1-0 at the same stage of the corresponding fixture last season. However, although Pavyluchenko mistimed a header from Lennon's cross, the Latics' blanket defence was holding firm. Spurs began to throw both Ledley King and Dawson forward as a breakthrough began to look less and less likely. The visitors replaced lone front man Boselli with Jordi Gomez midway through the half, while Spurs soon followed suit by bringing on Giovani Dos Santos for Lennon. Kranjcar saw yellow for sending Thomas tumbling 16 minutes from time, before he himself got Maynor Figueroa cautioned. Having spent almost the entire half penned in, Wigan suddenly went on the attack. Alcaraz somehow missed the target from point-blank range after the assistant referee wrongly kept his flag down and Gomez also volleyed over the top. Both chances came from crosses by Rodallega, who found the net himself 10 minutes from time after Cudicini fumbled his weak shot into the net. Tottenham poured forward in search of an equaliser and Tom Huddlestone volleyed just wide, Defoe found the side-netting and Kranjcar and Dawson both forced acrobatic saves from Al Habsi. Wigan brought on James McArthur for Ronnie Stam in the closing moments, while Spurs screams for handball against Alcaraz were ignored by referee Phil Dowd. Younes Kaboul wasted a glorious chance to equalise in stoppage-time when he glanced Kranjcar's free-kick wide.
