TOTTENHAM 2-1 LIVERPOOL.
90mins
Jermain Defoe makes way for Roman Pavlyuchenko for Spurs.
88mins
Again Liverpool appeal for a penalty for hand ball, this one definitely was a hand ball from Assou-Ekotto and Spurs are let off.
85mins
Voronin is barged off the ball in the box and he goes down, the Liverpool bench appeal but no penalty is awarded.
83mins
Gerrard nearly plays in Torres but Ledley King, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he meant it, manages to divert the ball into Gomes' arms with his chest.
82mins
Good play from Johnson, who has had a decent game for Liverpool, but his cross just evades Torres.
80mins
Great work from Mascherano as he denies Lennon the chance to break.
79mins
Liverpool are enjoying the majority of possesion but Spurs are defending well and restricting their chances.
78mins
The corner comes to nothing as Huddlestone clears for Spurs.
78mins
Benayoun's shot is deflected for a corner, meanwhile Dirk Kuyt makes way for Andriy Voronin for Liverpool who spent last season on loan in Germany.
76mins
This is Spanish centre-half Ayala's league debut for Liverpool, he hasn't got long to impress but if Skrtel turns out to have broken something we may see a bit more of the youngster in the coming games.
75mins
Daniel Sanchez Ayala replaces Martin Skrtel, who still looks to be suffering from that facial injury.
72mins
Gerrard tries to place a shot past Gomes from the left but the Brazilian keeper picks the ball out of the air, I don't often criticise Gerrard but he should have crossed towards Torres there.
69mins
Modric fires in a shot from distance but his effort is blocked.
67mins
Benoit Assou-Ekotto is awarded the sixth yellow card of the game, in all fairness this hasn't been an overly physical game and I'm inclined to say the ref has gone a bit card happy.
67mins
Spurs also make a change and former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane is replaced by another former Anfield man Peter Crouch.
67mins
Ryan Babel is replaced by Yossi Benayoun for Liverpool.
63mins
This is a very open game now, both teams have had half chances and Liverpool have a free kick in a good place after Johnson goes down.
59mins
Carragher booked for a foul on Defoe.
58mins
TOTTENHAM 2-1 LIVERPOOL: Spurs first attack after conceding and Bassong manages to get his head onto Modric's free kick and regain the lead for Spurs, great play from the home side.
57mins
That was a lucky-break for Liverpool in some ways as Spurs had controlled the game before that but it's game on now.
55mins
TOTTENHAM 1-1 LIVERPOOL: Gerrard buries the penalty with style, that was good work from Johnson to win the penalty but Gomes could have perhaps done better.
54mins
Gomes concedes a penalty after taking down Johnson and is booked in the process.
51mins
Palacios takes a shot from range and Reina does well to tip it over, Modric takes the resulting corner but Liverpool clear.
49mins
Martin Skrtel is handed a yellow card for a very tame challenge, I'm not even sure what that was for to be honest. Spurs look well organised in these opening stages and Liverpool have a task on their hands to get a result today.
48mins
Gerrard's shot produces a good save from Gomes but referee Phil Dowd awards Spurs a goal kick, wrong decision and to be honest I don't see how he could have missed that!
47mins
Great run from Aaaron Lennon, he leaves Carragher and Mascherano behind easily but is denied his moment of glory by a fantastic challenge from Lucas.
46mins
Liverpool win the first corner of the second half, decent delivery from Gerrard but King clears.

The second half is underway and both sides have returned unchanged.
45mins
TOTTENHAM 1-0 LIVERPOOL. Spurs take a well deserved lead into the break.

42mins
Spurs miss another great chance after Assou-Ekotto played a great ball into the box, it should have been a goal but Keane fired high and wide - he's missed three decent chances now, perhaps it just insn't his day.
41mins
Gerrard, Babel and Torres link up well but Babel's eventual cross is caught easily by Gomes, very poor ball from the Dutchman.

Despite the lack of goals this has been a pretty lively and decent game so far, Steven Gerrard has just seen a shot blocked by Huddlestone and Spurs clear.
37mins
Again Keane is denied by Reina when he should have scored, Modric takes the resulting cvorner and Defoe heads just wide as Spurs start to apply the pressure.
34mins
Huddlestone shoots wide but it wasn't a bad effort, Mascherano is back on the pitch.
33mins
Javier Mascherano is booked for al foul on Lennon, I'm not sure if he could get out the way Lennon was going so fast and it looks like the Argentine who has come off worse, as a result Spurs have a free kick in shooting range.
32mins
Great Chance for Spurs! Should have been 1-0 after great work from Modric to set up Keane, he has the goal at his mercy and Pepe Reina produced an outstanding save to deny Keane a goal.
31mins
Steven Gerrard unleashed a powerful shot from the egde of the box but it flies just wide of the left hand post but I think Gomes had it covered.

Great defending from Carragher, who apparently has 12 staples in his head after that clash of heads with Skrtel, he does just enough to put Jermaine Defoe off as he was lining up a shot.

Ryan Babel had a great opportunity to get himself into a shooting position but he hesitates and lost the chance.
8mins
No messing around from Skrtel again, who has been Liverpool's best player so far, he just shields the ball from Defoe and allows it to run to Reina.
5mins
Modric delivered the corner and Assou-Ekotto nearly got on the end of it but Liverpool managed to get the ball clear eventually.

Match Preview
Tottenham Hotspur welcome Liverpool on Sunday as both sides look to get their Premier League season off to the perfect start.
Spurs have allowed Darren Bent to join Sunderland for an initial £10million and they have replaced him with Peter Crouch from Portsmouth.
French defender Sebastien Bassong has also signed from relegated Newcastle United and they will be looking for an improved season under Harry Redknapp after he helped turn the club from bottom-of-the-table strugglers to European contenders after arriving from Portsmouth in October last year.
This will be his first full season in charge and he will be looking to further add his stamp on the set-up.
Crouch and Jermain Defoe could once again link up as they have for England and Portsmouth during their careers, but Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko will also be pushing for a start.
Redknapp will need to use all his managerial experience to keep his quartet happy as they will all expect to start the majority of the games this season.
Liverpool will look once more to the magic of key pair Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres ahead of the game.
Alberto Aquilani, a new big money signing from AS Roma, is unavailable through injury and Javier Mascherano will be expected to step up to the plate after Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid.
With Alonso moving on, the Liverpool midfield of Mascherano, Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt, Lucas and Yossi Benayoun will have a difficult job to replace the instrumental Spaniard, who linked so well with Gerrard in the centre of the park.
The Reds have a few concerns over the fitness of defensive trio Daniel Agger (back), Jamie Carragher (ankle) and Martin Skrtel (hamstring) but should be ready for the curtain raiser.
Spurs have their own worries with Jonathan Woodgate (groin), Ledley King (back), Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Gareth Bale (knee) unlikely to feature leaving the north London side light in defensive options.
In their clashes last season, Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane and the Merseyside outfit ended their season on a high note at Anfield winning 3-1.

Match Report
New signing Sebastien Bassong made a dream debut for Tottenham Hotspur as he headed the winning goal in his side's 2-1 victory at home to Liverpool.
Bassong only arrived from Newcastle for £8million last week, but he wasted no time winning over the home supporters as he rose above the vistors' defence to secure all three points for the home side.
Tottenham took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Benoit Assou-Ekotto fired a spectacular strike past Pepe Reina, but Steven Gerrard brought the Reds level from the penalty spot.
Rafa Benitez must have thought his side would go onto win the game, but he suffered a miserable start to the season when Bassong netted the winner and gave the Spaniard plenty to think about on his long journey back to Merseyside.
Tottenham had a golden chance to break the deadlock on 29 minutes when Luka Modric picked out Robbie Keane who was completely unmarked inside the box, but he directed his header straight at Reina who made a comfortable save.
Modric was involved in the heart of the action once again on 33 minutes when his superb pass picked out Keane who was clean through, but the Spurs skipper once again saw his effort well saved by Reina.
Keane wasted his third chance of the game on 41 minutes after Tom Huddlestone used great vision to pick out the Republic of Ireland striker, who was free inside the box but fired his shot high over the bar.
The home side finally got their just rewards when they broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion on 44 minutes.
Huddlestone saw his free-kick blocked by the Liverpool wall. The rebound fell to Assou-Ekotto whose powerful shot sailed past Reina into the top left-hand corner.
It was an extra special moment for the French defender who was celebrating the first goal of his career.
Reina had to be at his best once again for Liverpool on 52 minutes when he made a superb one-handed save to deny Wilson Palacios, whose shot looked destined for the top corner.
Tottenham were made to pay for all those missed opportunities when Gerrard grabbed an equaliser for Liverpool on 55 minutes.
Glen Johnson showed why Benitez paid £17million for his signature during the summer when he made a superb run into the Tottenham half.
The England defender cut inside Huddlestone and was then brought down inside the box by Heurelho Gomes. Gerrard made no mistake smashing the spot-kick into the roof of the net.
But Spurs quickly restored their lead on 59 minutes when Modric's free-kick picked out Bassong, who rose above Jamie Carragher inside the box and saw his powerful header fly past Reina into the corner of the net for the crucial winner.
Liverpool had strong claims for a penalty turned down on 87 minutes when the ball appeared to strike Assou-Ekotto's arm, but referee Phil Dowd waved for play to continue and their day was compounded when assistant boss Sammy Lee was sent off for dissent.

Liverpool assistant boss sammy Lee is sent to the stands, in all fairness both of those could well have been penalties but Lee's protests have earned him a reprimand.
