Match Preview

Smith suspended for Tamworth Jay Smith has been ruled out of Tamworth`s FA Cup clash with Crewe through suspension. Smith was booked for the fifth time this season against Fleetwood last weekend. Midfielder Ben Wilkinson missed that match and may again be absent this weekend. He faces a late fitness test on a groin injury. Daniel Bradley is pushing for a start after being reduced to a bench role last time out, and he will compete for a starting spot with Seb Lake-Gaskin. Caretaker manager Des Lyttle hinted at other changes in his post-match interview following the defeat to Fleetwood, although Kyle Perry is again likely to lead the attack. Perry has previous history in the FA Cup having been part of the famous Chasetown team who knocked out Port Vale three years ago. Crewe chief Dario Gradi has hinted at changes for the tie. After this week`s league defeats to Port Vale and Shrewsbury, Alex face a further three games in eight days starting with the trip to The Lamb Ground as the fixtures start to pile up. Gradi is concerned the likes of Lee Bell and David Artell, who have featured in all 18 games so far this season, may start to suffer from burn out. Therefore, he is considering giving the likes of Adam Dugdale, Mat Mitchel-King and Nick Powell a chance to impress, while also hinting he would tinker with his strike-force. "With games coming up like this I don't think all the players will be able to cope," said Gradi. "I'd imagine Belly will need a rest soon and the same goes for Artell. "Shaun (Miller) will play at some point and I'd like to give AJ (Leitch-Smith) a run-out too. We need to see if we have enough strength in depth. That is the purpose of having a squad." Meanwhile, left-back Danny Blanchett is a doubt after he sustained a bruised calf and Achilles tendon against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

Match Report

Rodman slams Crewe Alex Rodman's first-half strike and Danny Thomas' stunner helped Blue Square Bet Premier Tamworth stun Crewe with a 2-1 FA Cup win at the Lamb Ground. Rodman set the home side on their way in the 15th minute with the opener before Thomas curled home a spectacular second 10 minutes after the restart. Ashley Westwood netted a consolation in the 88th minute but the Lambs held on for a famous win. Rodman had The Lamb ground rocking 15 minutes in as his powerful shot cannoned against the crossbar and into the net with the aid of a deflection. In a pulsating first half, the Lambs went close to a second twice in the space of a minute as Michael Wylde's effort was cleared off the line by Matt Tootle and then Scott Barrow and Aaron Mitchell were denied by frantic Crewe defending. Tamworth goalkeeper James Severn also pulled off three fine saves late in the half to deny Joel Grant, twice, and Clayton Donaldson. The lively Thomas then curled home a brilliant second from 25 yards while, at the other end, Severn pulled off a stunning save to deny Westwood and Donaldson. Westwood gave Alex a sniff two minutes from time when his close range shot was bundled in but Des Lyttle's side held out.
