Match Report
Switzerland and Honduras are heading home from the World Cup after their goalless draw ensured Brazil and Chile progressed from Group H.
Chile now play Brazil in the last-16 while Spain face a mouth-watering encounter with Portugal on Tuesday.
Switzerland and Honduras managed only one goal between them in South Africa and it was clear why during a poor-quality 90 minutes in Bloemfontein.
But it was a disappointing way for the Swiss to bow out of the competition following their amazing 1-0 victory against Spain just nine days ago.
There were doubts about Switzerland's ability to attack teams and so it proved as they struggled to break a resolute Honduras defence down.
Indeed Honduras created the better chances during the match as they tried to break their goalscoring duck at the tournament.
Switzerland should have taken the lead in the 19th minute though when Eren Derdiyok got his head to Tranquillo Barnetta's pinpoint cross only to guide the ball narrowly wide.
The only other chance of note before half-time came when Derdiyok's cross found Blaise N'Kufo at the back post but he elected to chest the ball down rather than lash in a shot and the chance was wasted.
Honduras improved after the interval and should have scored in the 55th minute when Edgar Alvarez laid the ball on a plate for David Suazo who contrived to head wide of the target from no more than six yards out.
With 19 minutes left, Diego Benaglio was forced to make one of the saves of the tournament when he denied Alvarez's lofted shot with a superb one-handed stop.
Honduras also had a late goal disallowed as both teams showed why they will not be progressing to the knockout stages.
