Match Preview

No worries for flying Robins Paolo Di Canio has no fresh injury worries as his Swindon side look to extend their seven-game winning run. Town ground out a 2-1 win against Hereford at the weekend to go one point off the top of the table, with two games in hand on Cheltenham and Southend. Alan Connell was a late substitute in the Hereford game but may be restored to the starting line-up after overcoming a hamstring problem. Defender Adam Flint will miss around six weeks with a groin problem, despite an initial specialist suggesting he could miss the rest of the campaign. However, the biggest change could be the return of Di Canio to the touchline after serving his two-game ban for being sent to the stands in the fixture with Macclesfield. Shrewsbury are likely to remain unchanged for a third successive match as they travel to Swindon for a bumper promotion showdown. Town boss Graham Turner kept faith with the same XI who saw off Bristol Rovers for Saturday's 2-1 triumph at Barnet, and he will see no reason for change at the County Ground. Turner resisted the temptation at Underhill to hand recalls to fit-again centre-back Shane Cansdell-Sherriff or striker Marvin Morgan following his return from suspension. And they - along with the likes of Lionel Ainsworth, Nicky Wroe and Romaine Sawyers - are again set to have to make do with possible cameo roles. Fit-again defender Reuben Hazell will need match practice before being considered for first-team selection, having worked his way back from a lengthy knee injury. Shrews are just one place and one point behind Swindon, who occupy the third and final automatic promotion place in League Two.

Match Report

Connell brace sends Robins soaring Substitute Alan Connell scored twice as Swindon defeated Shrewsbury 2-1 to surge to the top of npower League Two. Swindon started the match in third place and Shrewsbury in fourth but the Robins' win took them a point clear of Cheltenham, who drew with AFC Wimbledon. Shrewsbury had the better of the first half and took the lead in the 40th minute when Matt Richards headed in Mark Wright's corner. Robins manager Paolo Di Canio sent on Connell at the start of the second half in place of Billy Bodin and the move soon paid off. Shrewsbury goalkeeper Chris Neal failed to hold a shot from Matt Ritchie after 64 minutes and Connell snapped up the rebound. Connell's opportunism gave Swindon their winner in the 76th minute when a shot from Luke Rooney hit the underside of the bar and the #120,000 signing from Grimsby swept home for his 10th goal of the season.
