Match Report

Huddersfield sent Swindon spiralling further down the league table as Maurice Malpas' side slipped to a fifth successive home defeat.

Stan Ternent's men were in impressive form as goals from on-loan Derby striker Liam Dickinson, Gary Roberts and Michael Flynn were sufficient to see off a Swindon team, who despite Craig Easton claiming a late consolation were woeful.

Malpas remains a man under pressure and could be the next league manager to get the chop after just nine months in charge, fans' support speaks volumes and in the Swindon faithful the Scot has none.

Huddersfield took the lead as early as the sixth minute as Swindon dozed off from a short corner and, as the ball bounced around in the penalty area, Andy Butler flicked on to Dickinson whose outstretched right boot put the ball across the line for his fifth of the season.

The home side were nearly two down but John Worthington's enticing cross on 11 minutes was just too far ahead of Dickinson.

Swindon vainly attempted to rally and through the impressive Simon Cox had a willing runner, but the diminutive frontman was given no support.

Top scorer Cox though can have no excuses as he fluffed a golden chance to gain his side an undeserved equaliser on 25 minutes.

Michael Timlin was sent tumbling to the ground after a challenge from Jim Goodwin inside the penalty area. But Cox's spot-kick was weak and Matt Glennon saved comfortably.

To make matters worse the Huddersfield goalkeeper booted the ball 80 yards upfield for Roberts to burst clear of a static home defence and fire in an unstoppable left-footed half volley.

That was enough for some Swindon fans to exit the ground with one even throwing his season ticket away in disgust.

Swindon attempted to rally in the second period, but passes went astray as their confidence continued to ebb away.

Their belief was firmly planted at rock bottom as Huddersfield claimed the third with the impressive Ian Craney denied on the goal-line by Jack Smith, only for Flynn to smash home the rebound in some style.

Easton's barely noticed consolation gave some cheer to the beleaguered home support, but by that stage the knives were already out for Malpas.
