Match Preview

New-look Robins out to clip Seagulls` wings

Swindon boast a fully-fit squad for their opening game of the new League One season at home to Brighton.

Six summer recruits are all battling to make their way into Danny Wilson`s starting XI as the club look to go one better than their promotion heartbreak last term.

The most intriguing battle comes in attack where new signing Thomas Dossevi is battling Vincent Pericard to start alongside Charlie Austin following Billy Paynter`s departure for Leeds.

Elsewhere, Simon Ferry, Paul Caddis, Michael Rose, David Prutton and David Ball will also be competing to line up against the Seagulls.

Jonathan Douglas will wear the captain`s armband in the absence of central defender Gordon Greer who ironically completed a summer switch to Brighton.

But he will not be available to play at the County Ground due to suspension having been sent off in Town`s play-off semi-final second leg triumph over Charlton back in May.

Brighton will be without Gordon Greer and Glenn Murray.

Former Swindon defender Greer, who has been named Seagulls captain, and striker Murray are suspended due to red cards picked up at the end of last season.

Young centre-half Lewis Dunk is out with a foot injury so Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick will start at the back.

Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan is missing with a wrist injury so summer signing Michael Poke gets an early chance to impress.

Ashley Barnes, who has joined on a permanent deal after last season's successful loan spell, could start on his own in attack.

New signings Matt Sparrow, Radostin Kishishev, Agustin Battipiedi and Cristian Baz should also be involved.

Match Report

Sparrow flies high for Seagulls Brighton's Matt Sparrow scored twice on his debut in a 2-1 win to make it a happy return to Swindon for manager Gus Poyet. The Seagulls were ahead in the 18th minute when Sparrow, signed on a free transfer from Scunthorpe, blasted a left-foot shot from 20 yards into the top corner. Swindon had few chances to get back into the game, with Jonathan Douglas volleying over the bar after 36 minutes. Sparrow scored his second when Swindon were caught on the counter-attack and he rounded on-rushing goalkeeper Phil Smith before scoring. Brighton new goalkeeper Casper Ankergren was lucky to stay on after 76 minutes when he brought down Austin on the edge of the area with no defenders behind him. Charlie Austin, scorer of 20 goals last season, gave Swindon hope when he made the most of a rebound following a free-kick by Michael Rose.
