Welcome to the Stadium of Light - Today, Sunderland play host to a Chelsea side who have hit scintalating form of late but The Black Cats will be hoping to cause an upset here and avoid three consecutive defeats .

Match Report

Two defeats a draw against bottom club Derby County in their last three games has increased Sunderland's relegation fears ahead of Saturday's visit of Chelsea.

Last weekend the Black Cats produced their usual committed performance, but were edged out 1-0 by Everton at Goodison Park to remain just three points clear of the drop zone.

However, what is keeping the Wearsiders out of the bottom three is their solid record at the Stadium of Light as they have won more home games than the likes of top-half sides Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.

Roy Keane's side have won four of their last six games on home soil and, had their away record evenly remotely measured up, then they would be challenging for a UEFA Cup spot.

But that recent run of two defeats an a draw has seen the Cats draw a blank in front of goal and five-goal top-scorer Kenwyne Jones is in the midst of a nine-match barren spell.

Big-money summer signing Michael Chopra is pushing for a recall as is fellow forward Rada Prica, but Dwight Yorke (calf) and Carlos Edwards (broken leg) both remain doubtful despite returning to training after recent injury problems.

Chelsea provided the perfect response to their cup critics with a 6-1 demolition of Championship-bound Derby County in midweek.

Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard returned to the side that was humbled in the FA Cup by Barnsley last weekend as the Blues closed the gap to second-placed Manchester United to just three points.

Before the visit of the Rams, under-fire first-team coach Avram Grant denied claims his job was under threat following their FA Cup debacle and failure to overcome Spurs in the Carling Cup Final.

But the taciturn Israeli would have been heartened with the on-pitch performance which kept the London club's somewhat overlooked title challenge firmly on track.

Chelsea have recent history on their side when in comes to locking horns with the Wearsiders as they have won the last six encounters, both home and away, with their weekend opponents.

Earlier in the season, the Blues were 2-0 winners over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge with Andriy Shevchenko and Lampard on the mark. Injury-wise, Grant has only one doubt over goalkeeper Petr Cech who is sidelined with an ankle problem.

He therefore has several selection headaches to contend with as he looks to juggle a squad laced with a world-class players and keep everyone happy.
