Match Report

Arsenal cruised to a ninth straight win when they beat Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League on Tuesday, leaving the Premier League leaders firm favourites to beat 15th-placed Sunderland this weekend.

The Gunners have not conceded two goals in a match since April, and have now kept five clean sheets in a row.

They also have the league's top scorer, Emmanuel Adebayor, and the leading goal-getting midfielder in Cesc Fabregas.

Add to that Arsenal's dominance over Sunderland the last time the Black Cats were in the top division - the Gunners scored nine times in three wins - and a one-sided game looks on the cards.

However, Sunderland boss Roy Keane will manage against Arsenal for the first time, having competed memorably against them for ten years as a Manchester United player.

The Gunners also have a number of small injury problems. Adebayor, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby, Alex Hleb and Robin van Persie all took - and passed - fitness tests before the midweek win in AS Romania.

Jens Lehmann could finally return in goal after arm problems, while William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky are both on the road to recovery.

Money has been central to most discussions on Wearside over the past week, including how much of it would be needed to lure David Beckham to the north-east.

A Beckham spokesman dismissed the rumours, but Sunderland's lack of a denial suggests they saw it as a realistic possibility.

Keane is waiting for an offer of a new contract from Sunderland, for which money isn't thought to be a problem.

Despite having two more years left on his current deal, the man who brought the Black Cats back into the Premiership is eager to commit himself further.

"I appreciate the club will want an element of commitment from me on a longer scale. That is something I understand," Keane said about the contract talks.

Sunderland have four long-term injury problems, but Andy Cole and Carlos Edwards are thought to be close to a return.

Their 2-1 loss to Blackburn last weekend leaves them two points above the relegation zone after eight games.
