Match Preview
Harry Redknapp will be hoping for another Dr Jekyll rather than Mr Hyde showing from his side when they face Stoke City on Sunday.
Last weekend Pompey put recent 6-0 and 4-0 routs at the hands of Manchester City and Chelsea to one side as they overcame struggling Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Fratton Park.
Jermain Defoe, against his former club, and Peter Crouch were on the mark as the south coast club moved up to ninth in the table.
Pompey even finished the game with ten men following the dismissal of Lassana Diarra for two bookings and the France midfielder will miss the visit of the Potters on Saturday.
But despite the return to winning ways, Redknapp has admitted his concern at a defence that is second only to crisis-club Newcastle United in terms of the amount of goals conceded so far this season.
England keeper David James has been erratic by his own high standards of recent seasons, while the likes of summer signings Younes Kaboul and Armand Traore have yet to convince.
Redknapp is unlikely to alter last weekend's winning side too much which means Kanu, John Utaka and Hermann Hreidarsson will again play second fiddle to the likes of Nadir Belhadj and Richard Hughes.
Fit-again Sean Davis is likely to step in for the suspended Diarra, but Niko Kranjcar, Ben Sahar and Lauren remain absent through injury.
Stoke arrive on the south coast looking to catch up the fast starts made by their fellow newly-promoted sides Hull City and West Bromwich Albion.
The Potters are currently the least successful of the trio that came up from the Championship last season and are still seeking their first away win in the top-flight.
Tony Pulis' side remained in the bottom three after losing 2-0 to Chelsea last weekend despite frustrating the title challengers for long periods at the Britannia Stadium.
Stoke's major problem though is a lack of goals as they have scored just three times in their last four league games and £5million record signing Dave Kitson is yet to get off the mark for his new club.

Match Report
Harry Redknapp had his little and large strike combination to thank once again as Portsmouth capped a memorable week with a 2-1 win at home to lowly Stoke.
Peter Crouch netted for the third game in succession with a sublime overhead kick before partner in crime Jermain Defoe won the match with his sixth goal of the season.
Crouch was Portsmouth's two-goal extra time hero against Vitoria Gumaraes in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.
The former Liverpool striker continued where he left on in Portugal with a sublime overhead kick in the 25th minute.
Defoe whipped in a cross from the right which fell slightly behind Crouch, who adjusted his six foot seven inch frame to volley superbly past Stoke goalkeeper Steve Simonsen from 12 yards.
The goal was a replica of Crouch's famous Champions League strike for Liverpool against Galatasaray.
Rory Delap was a permanent menace to the Portsmouth defence to his long throws and the Irishman almost embarrassed David James by launching a missile from the left which trickled agonisingly across the Portsmouth goal-line.
Delap went one better three minutes into the second half when his lob from the right caught out the whole Portsmouth defence for Ricardo Fuller to bundle home at the back post against his old club.
Stoke's hopes of snatching a rare away point were dashed when Defoe put Portsmouth back in front three minutes later.
Defoe had already rattled against Simonsen's left post when he collected the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and fired expertly past the Stoke keeper at his near left post from 18 yards.
Crouch would have had his second of the afternoon but for a brilliant reaction save from Simonsen in the 57th minute after a marauding run from Armand Traore.
Simonsen also denied Traore his first Portsmouth goal five minutes later with another good stop to keep out the Arsenal loanee's near-post rocket shot.
