Full-Time: STOKE 0-0 LIVERPOOL. Stoke made it a very difficult evening for Liverpool and although Gerrard struck the post and bar late on, Stoke were good value for their point.
The Stoke fans believe their side has done enough now to take a point and are already celebrating a superb result for them.
Aurelio loops a long ball forward and Torres rises well to flick on for Gerrard who pokes brliiantly past Sorenson but this time he is denied by the outside of the post.
There are going to be three minutes of added time.
Stoke are making a late change as Dave Kitson is replaced by Danny Pugh to try and shore things up.
Is there a dramatic late goal to come here? Liverpool will certainly want one to extend their lead at the top but Stoke are possibly more deserving.
So close! Gerrard bends the free-kick towards the far post but its too long but ends up dipping stright onto the the cross bar and away. Did he mean it? He certainly would have claimed it had it gone in.
Andy Wilkinson collects a yellow card for a blatant chop on Babel as the Dutch winger blitzed around him.
Liverpool are continuing to struggle to create and they seem to have missed the passing of Xabi Alonso tonight because Lucas has had a very poor evening, particularly with his distribution.
Stoke are going for it! They don't seem happy to try and hold out for a point because they want all three. But will that backfire?
Whelan takes the free-kick and it bends all of an inch past the far angle of post and bar with Reina beaten all ends up. So close for the Potters!
Stoke are now going to make a change as Liam Lawrence replaces Matthew Etherington.
Kitson drives towards the edge of the box and Lucas rugby tackles him to the floor - and is booked.
Liverpool now make their second substitution as Ryan Babel replaces Yossi Benayoun.
Not this time! Delap launches another throw into the six-yard box and Kitson has lost his man to get a free header but he flicks it onto the roof of the net. What a chance!
Liverpool are beginning to deal with Delap's missiles now as Reina stays at home and allows his defenders to deal with the flying ball.
A bit of a worry for Stoke here as Ryan Shawcross has stayed down after a superb challenge on Fernando Torres - but it might just be a spot of cramp.
Stoke now make a meal of clearing a free-kick and it is looped back towards Lucas, unmarked at the far post, but he elects to head across goal rather than for goal and Hyypia has no chance of reaching it.
Matthew Etherington tries to get back to block Carragher's cross but he is late and gets a booking for taking away his legs.
Steven Gerrard tries to take a sneaky free-kick but the referee had told him to wait for the whistle and he gets a booking.
Liverpool are struggling to find a real foothold in the game but with Gerrard and Torres in attack now they probably only need one moment of magic to open Stoke up.
Rafa Benitez is making his big change now as Fernando Torres returns from injury in place of Albert Riera.
It has to be said that Stoke are not under any great pressure and Thomas Sorenson has definitely been the least troubled ofthe two goalkeepers - but Torres and Keane are going through a vigorous warm-up routine now.
Superb defending from Carragher! Another Delap throw is badly defended and Griffin Wilkinson loops a hopeful one into the box but Shawcross is rising to head into the net until Carragher leaps to flick away from him.
Stoke are doing a really good job of hassling the Liverpool players tonight and again they force a mistake deep in their opponents territory.
Unbelievable! Reina makes a complete hash of a simple clearance as he plays it straight to Kitson who collects the ball and rounds the keeper but from a tight angle he can't find the target.
Liverpool get us underway in the second half and they will be looking to regain the control they lost as the first half wore on.
Half Time: STOKE 0-0 LIVERPOOL. Stoke have enjoyed the better of the chances and Liverpool might feel a little fortunate to be going in at 0-0 but Benitez has plenty of options on the bench.
Lucas is down after a hefty shoulder charge from Cresswell but it was something of nothing really and the Brazilian is eventually back to his feet.
There is going to be one minute of added time.
This half has not been the best of Liverpool's season so far and they might go into the break delighted to be on level terms.
Albert Riera has been Liverpool's most potent threat tonight and he delivers a fabulous ball towards the six-yard box but no-one is in the box to capitalise.
The home side are the ones applying the pressure at the moment as Liverpool struggle to regain their earlier dominance - Delap's throws are starting to become a weapon again.
Stoke have it in the net! But it won't count! More nervous moments at the back for Liverpool with Reina creating problems for himself and eventually the ball is driven in but Shawcross is offside as he heads home.
Fabio Aurelio is having a torrid time of it as for the third time he is out paced and out thought by Delap on the Stoke right but Hyypia rescues the Brazlian.
More woeful defending from Stoke as Benayoun sends four of them the wrong way with a simple Cruyff turn on the edge of the box but luckily for the Potters Wilkinson comes across from the other side to block.
Appalling defending from Stoke allows Dirk Kuyt to advance in the box unchallenged but his angle is a bit tight and Sorenson gets his body in the way of the shot.
Stoke are starting to find their feet as they begin to really pressure Liverpool all over the pitch and the Merseysiders are yet to really create anything.
Despite all their possession Liverpool do look a little uncomfortable at the back with Skrtel and Aurelio returning from long absences.
After a brief period of Stoke pressure, Liverpool have regained control with Mascherano and Lucas seeing an unbelievable amount of the ball.
What a chance! Delap's long throw is only half cleared and eventually the Irishman finds himself with the ball in the box and with Reina down he has a glorious opening but he fires against the underside of the bar.
The game is beginning to take shape with Liverpool establishing a major possession and territorial advantage as they begin to dictate the tempo.
First chance! Liverpool work the ball well out to the left for Riera who delivers a dangerous cross to the near post where Kuyt rises but he can ponly glance it wide of the far post.
Its a frantic start to the game with both sides looking to play with a high tempo and for that reason it has been low on quality in the opening moments.
...but it's tame, looping and all around a pretty poor effort and Reina can wave it over the bar.
Stoke have an early chance as Hyypia bundles through the back of Kitson and Glenn Whelan is stood over it...
Lee Mason is the man in charge today and he gets us underway - Fernando Torres is back on the bench this evening by the way.

Stoke have not won in any of their last six league outings but their home record is something of envy to many in the Premier League this season.
Welcome to the Brittania Stadium where Stoke City entertain table-topping title chasers Liverpool.
League leaders Liverpool travel to Stoke on Saturday with a mixed bag of injury news, while the home side will have to overcome several problems of their own. The Reds are expected to allow under-fire Steven Gerrard to continue his recent excellent form despite the Liverpool captain's court date drawing ever closer. Assistant manager Sammy Lee paid tribute to Gerrard after a captain's performance in Liverpool's FA Cup third round triumph at Preston in the wake of his arrest. "Steven is a top professional," he said. "He has the full support of this football club. "He produced a terrific performance, he is a model professional and we're all behind him." The Reds were buoyed by a scoring return from star striker Fernando Torres, but are anxiously awaiting the results of the injury sustained by in-form midfield general Xabi Alonso. The Spanish international limped out of Saturday's game at Deepdale and sustained seven stitches in his foot, but Lee is hoping there will be no serious damage. Also missing is young left-back Emiliano Insua, who has been called up to represent Argentina in the under-20 South American Championships and will not return until February 8. Insua's absence could allow a return to first-team action for Andrea Dossena. The Italian is subject to transfer speculation after an unsettled start to life on Merseyside, but Benitez has denied he will be sold. Stoke go into the game in the bottom three and on the back of a shock FA Cup third round exit at the hands of Hartlepool United. Tony Pulis confirmed that he will be looking to bring in new faces during January, giving an extra incentive for his players to impress this Saturday tea-time. "We are chasing certain targets and hopefully we are getting closer to them. Fingers crossed we are close with a couple, but we need more than that," the Stoke manager told The Sentinel. Stoke will be without top scorer Ricardo Fuller, who is serving a three-match ban for striking team-mate Andy Griffin at West Ham. However, the FA has confirmed that Abdoulaye Faye is free to play after confusion over the amount of yellow cards he had received this season.
Premier League leaders Liverpool dropped two points, but it could have been all three as battling Stoke City moved out of the relegation zone on the back of a goalless draw. Tony Pulis' men created most of the best chances and Rafa Benitez could have no complaints about the outcome after his side failed to impress. Stoke fielded new signing Matthew Etherington after his £3million move from West Ham, but suffered a blow in the pre-match warm-up when former Liverpool midfielder Salif Diao felt a reaction to a calf strain. Glenn Whelan took his place in the starting line-up and the Republic of Ireland international lofted an early free-kick over the top after Martin Skrtel fouled Dave Kitson 20 yards out. Liverpool appeared to settle after that and a period of possession led to Dirk Kuyt heading wide from Albert Riera's pinpoint cross from the left. But the league leaders survived an almighty scare in the 12th minute after a high ball from Amady Faye caused all sorts of problems. Ryan Shawcross eventually smuggled a pass to Rory Delap and he smashed a six-yard shot against the crossbar when it looked easier to score. Thomas Sorensen rescued Stoke with a decent save in the 22nd minute after some desperate defending presented Kuyt with another opportunity. But a determined home side were more than holding their own and Shawcross's 31st minute header from Etherington's delivery was ruled out for offside. Benitez had Fernando Torres warming up during the interval, but the Spanish superstar stayed on the bench with neither side making changes at half-time. Liverpool forced a couple of corners as they upped the ante at the start of the second period before a poor mistake by Pepe Reina almost handed Stoke a 50th minute lead. Reina kicked an attempted clearance straight to Kitson, who went around the keeper only to fire an angled shot into the side-netting. Benitez finally brought on Torres on the hour in an attempt to pep up his ineffective attack. And Liverpool did threaten in the 68th minute when Lucas decided to head across goal rather than straight at a gaping net. But Stoke refused to be dominated as Kitson headed narrowly over from another Delap throw and Whelan bent a free-kick inches wide. Gerrard did whip a late free-kick against the top of the crossbar and then almost won it in stoppage time. He managed to clip a shot towards goal after chasing down a long pass and the ball bounced behind off Sorensen's right-hand post.
