Match Report

Five goals in the first half lit up a dull day in Yeovil and gave Stockport County reason to celebrate after their shock midweek FA Cup exit at the hands of Gillingham.

In the 24th minute Johnny Mullins gave Stockport the lead with a neat finish from just outside the box on the right after he was put through by Dominic Blizzard.

The lead lasted less than two minutes. Yeovil's Nathan Smith powered forward from the left-back position and let fly with a 30-yard drive that gave Owain Fon Williams no chance.

It stayed 1-1 until the 43rd minute and then there was a three-goal blitz. Yeovil took the lead through Paul Warne after good work by substitute Andy Welsh, but immediately Tommy Rowe equalised.

He picked up a good pass from Anthony Pilkington and weaved past two defenders to fire low past Yeovil keeper Josh Wagenaar's right hand.

Barely had Yeovil kicked off before Stockport scored again. Full-back Mullins who became a dad earlier in the week, crowned a man of the match performance when he cut inside to finish neatly, after Jason Taylor lifted the ball over the Yeovil defence to set up the chance.

The second half failed to match the first for excitement and although Yeovil had more of the play territorially it was Stockport who created and wasted the better chances.

They finally got the goal that clinched the points two minutes from time. It involved two substitutes. Paul Turnbull got in a cross from the left and the head of Carl Baker, a half-time replacement for Stephen Gleeson did the rest.

Considering County were without injured skipper Michael Raynes and shell-shocked from the midweek defeat, it was an excellent back-to-form performance.
