Match Report

Leeds United's ninth successive home victory left them seven points behind second-placed Peterborough United with four matches left.

It also just about killed off any hopes Stockport had of making the play-offs as County completed five successive games without a goal.

Leeds were still without defender Sam Sodje and leading scorer Jermaine Beckford who could be back against Leicester on Easter Monday. Stockport had goalkeeper Conrad Logan on a third seven-day emergency loan from Leicester, with Owain Fon Williams and Lloyd Rigby still injured.

Leeds took just nine minutes to open the scoring. Logan failed to deal with a cross from the right by Jonathan Douglas and Jonny Howson was on hand to stab home his fifth goal of the season.

Stockport had little to offer in attack, though soon after the goal they tested Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren who used an outstretched leg to keep out Tommy Rowe's low drive.

Leeds looked much the sharper outfit and after Liam Dickinson fired against the bar against his old club, County's left-back Michael Reynes cleared Richard Naylor's header off the line.

County lost right-back James Tunnicliffe who limped off in the 19th minute, to be replaced by Andy Halls, and with Chris O'Grady isolated as Stockport's lone striker, Leeds should have built a bigger lead by the interval.

Stockport began the second half with former Nostell Miners Welfare striker Oli Johnson on in place of midfielder Greg Tansey as they switched to a more adventurous 4-4-2 formation.

However, Leeds remained on top, substitute Andy Robinson going close three times, including a shot which rattled the bar, though Ankergren made a smart save from Reynes just before the end.
