Match Preview
Goodall in the frame for Stockport bow Rock-bottom Stockport will be without Robbie Williams for the home clash with Chesterfield but new recruit Alan Goodall may come into contention. Left-back Williams' contract at Edgeley Park has expired but defender Goodall has joined from Rochdale on a contract until the end of the season. Defenders Daniel O'Donnell and Aaron Brown joined the League Two strugglers last week and made their debuts in Saturday's 4-0 hammering at Rotherham. Stockport have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last 13 games and have the unenviable record of 65 goals against in just 28 games. Yet caretaker boss Peter Ward said: "There is still a lot to play for and we owe it to the fans of this club to work hard and turn results around." Leaders Chesterfield have injury problems to contend with. Defenders Gregor Robertson and Simon Ford and striker Jack Lester are doubts after sustaining problems during the 2-2 home draw against Bradford on Saturday. "There are a lot of games coming up and Gregor and Jack both have slight pulls to their hamstrings and Fordy is struggling with a swollen knee, so there could be changes," said assistant manager Tommy Wright. "On the plus side, we have replacements and a fairly strong squad we can rely on. We will need it in the weeks ahead." Scott Griffiths and Javan Vidal could return in defence should Robertson and Ford not make it. Deane Smalley is the likely replacement for Lester, while fellow forward Jordan Bowery is another option for manager John Sheridan.

Match Report
Smalley spares Spireites' blushes Deane Smalley's second-half strike proved decisive as Chesterfield survived a scare to claim a 1-1 draw in their top-versus-bottom encounter against Stockport. In a dire first half, the only corner arrived after 34 minutes, whilst the first real opportunity on goal came with a minute left when Ian Morris's 35-yard effort for The Spireites slid past Matt Glennon's left hand post. The second half had to be better. And so it was, with end to end football making what had taken place before a distant memory. The Hatters, in particular, produced some stirring play, with Ishmel Demontagnac coming life to force a save from Tommy Lee and then setting up Stephen Husband and Tom Fisher. Not to be out-done, the visitors' Craig Davies hit the crossbar from a well-worked free kick. Sensing only their second home victory of the season, County went in front on 72 minutes when Paul Turnbull steered home a Greg Tansey lob, but Chesterfield equalised almost immediately through Dean Smalley's close-range header. Both sides continued to strive for a winner but in the end a draw was a fair result.
