Match Preview

Paterson blow for Hatters Stockport caretaker boss Ray Mathias will be without striker Matt Paterson for the home clash with Cheltenham. The Southend forward is currently injured and has missed County`s last three games but has now returned to his parent club. James Vincent will miss out through injury but Paul Turnbull will return to the squad. Mathias wants to lead the club straight back into the Football League if he is handed the reins on a permanent basis. Mathias joined the club in January but the club have received applications from several other potential candidates. Mathias said: "It's going to be a long season next year, but, given the chance, I will give it my best shot at bringing us straight back up." Mark Yates has no new injury or suspension concerns but is contemplating one or two changes to his line-up. The Robins boss has hinted at possible starting berths for those leaving the club in the summer and youngsters who he wishes to take a look at with a view to next season. The identities of the out-of-contract players will be revealed early next week but, when it comes to future talent, Yates has already mentioned a couple of names he is considering casting an eye over at Edgeley Park. Goalkeeper Daniel-Lloyd Weston may make his debut between the sticks in place of Scott Brown, while defender Kyle Haynes could also come in for his first start of the season. Leading scorer Wes Thomas, one of those who appears poised to leave Whaddon Road in the coming months, is likely to feature, although that may potentially depend on his heavily pregnant partner who is due to give birth. Town, with their League Two status now secure, will not risk early returns for striker Jeff Goulding or right-back Keith Lowe (both ankle).

Match Report

Tansey earns Hatters draw as fans protest Greg Tansey's late penalty earned Stockport a 1-1 draw against Cheltenham in a controversial game at Edgeley Park. Home fans invaded the pitch with just over five minutes remaining, where they proceeded to sit in the centre circle and refused to move, resulting in the players having to leave the pitch. Brian Smikle tapped home his fourth league goal of the season in the 23rd minute to put the visitors ahead against the run of play. Stockport defender Mansour Assoumani then had a header from a Tansey corner cleared off the line by Marlon Pack. On the hour mark, Robins striker Wes Thomas worked some space for himself on the edge of the area before firing an effort narrowly wide of the left-hand post. In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Andy Gallinagh tripped James Wallace in the area, with Tansey smashing home the resulting spot-kick.
