Bury came from behind to finally see off ten-man Stockport at Edgeley Park.
There was a rip-roaring start to the game as, after less than a minute, Stockport striker Adam Proudlock saw his vicious in-swinging corner punched off the line by Bury keeper Darren Randolph.
Then at the other end, Conrad Logan produced a brilliant stop to deny Bury frontman Nicky Adams.
Stockport lost centre-back Jim McNulty to injury after just eight minutes, but it didn't affect them too adversely.
Shortly after the hosts produced a great move which culminated with Randolph producing a flying save to deny teenage prospect Tommy Rowe.
Randolph proved to be the Bury villain on 22 minutes though.
This time Michael Rose swung in a corner-kick from the right and the keeper grabbed the ball before clumsily losing it and allowing it to fall into the back of the net.Andy Bishop missed a great chance to level for Bury just before the half-hour mark, then soon after his fellow strike partner Adam Rooney shot just wide after a good run.
Stockport responded with Rowe twice going close to a fifth goal in three games, but drama followed just before the interval.
Shakers newboy Efe Sodje tried to pinch the ball off Logan as he prepared to make a simple clearance, but Logan pulled him back on the edge of the Stockport box.
Logan was immediately red-carded by Uriah Rennie - to be replaced by striker Proudlock - then Bishop slammed the subsequent free-kick into the wall.
There was a scare-free opening 10 minutes for the hosts, before Paul Turnbull was called upon to clear Bishop's header off the line.
Proudlock saved Brian Barry-Murphy's shot well, but Stockport remained determined and Turnbull and Rose both missed opportunities to double their lead.
Bury finally got their leveller on 71 minutes though, and it was skipper Paul Scott who headed home Barry-Murphy's corner-kick.
Eight minutes later, Bury went in front when James Smith's headed clearance fell right to Adams and he volleyed in superbly from 12 yards.
