Match Preview

Problems mount for Borough Stevenage have injury problems ahead of the visit of Tranmere. Manager Graham Westley has not named those players concerned but defender Ronnie Henry missed the goalless draw against Preston with a leg injury sustained during the FA Cup win over Stourbridge, while striker Chris Beardsley had to be substituted at half-time at Deepdale after being on the receiving end of several challenges, so both could be amongst the walking wounded at the Lamex Stadium this week. "It's been a very difficult week on the training ground," said Westley. "We've had a lot of injuries and we've had as few as 12 out there so I can't guarantee that we're going to get 16 together for Saturday. "It's been tough, we've taken a lot of knocks and I think I saw a stat this week that said we are the most fouled-against team in this league. "When you listen to all the chat that people put out there about Stevenage this, Stevenage that - to think we've had more fouls against us than any other side says something about the way teams are going about their work against us. It shows what a threat they see us as and the difficulties they have in defending against us." Tranmere manager Les Parry will make a late decision on the fitness of forward pair Enoch Showunmi and Lucas Adkins. The duo picked up heel and ankle injuries respectively in last weekend`s defeat to MK Dons. "We`re going to leave Lucas until the very last minute," Parry told Rovers` official website. "He`s still sore but he`s a lot better than he was because for two days he was on sticks. He`s walking normally now, but when he puts a boot on I don`t know how sore he`ll be." On Showunmi, he added: "Enoch hasn`t trained. He was in on the lads` day off for treatment and we`re trying to nurse him back. We`ll give him all the time he needs to get back." Defender David Raven is set to miss the game at the Lamex Stadium with a thigh strain, while full-back Zoumana Bakayogo (knee) and goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams (broken hand) remain sidelined.

Match Report

In-form Boro extend run Goals in each half from Chris Beardsley and Mark Roberts ensured Stevenage stretched their unbeaten league run to nine matches with a 2-1 home victory over Tranmere. Beardsley got the ball rolling with a clever finish seven minutes before half-time and captain Roberts doubled the lead with six minutes remaining. An injury-time Joss Labadie penalty was scant consolation for Rovers. Tranmere had not kept a clean sheet in five games and Beardsley made it six when he flicked home after 38 minutes following a long throw-in from Lawrie Wilson. That was the striker's last contribution, as he hobbled off with an injury shortly afterwards. The home side continued to press after the break, and substitute Robin Shroot set up the onrushing Luke Freeman but he put his effort into the side netting from a tight angle. But Stevenage's other sub, Ben May, was given a straight red card 20 minutes from time after sliding in on Rachubka, who collected the ball just before contact was made. Tranmere pressed after the sending off but could not create any clear cut chances, and the 10 men got a second goal when Shroot's free-kick found Roberts at the back post and he powered a header in. Rovers were awarded a penalty in injury time when Scott Laird hauled down Mark McChrystal, and Labadie sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
