Match Preview
Stevenage missing only duo Stevenage boss Graham Westley has only two players missing as his side embark on their first match in the third tier of English football with a home clash against Exeter. Midfielder Rob Sinclair is sidelined with a groin strain and goalkeeper Chris Day is out of action due to a finger injury. However, Westley has a sizeable pool of players to choose from and summer signings Guy Madjo, Alan Julian, Phil Edwards, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Robin Shroot should all come into contention. Stevenage have achieved successive promotions in the past two seasons and Westley believes his men will get the respect he feels they deserve. Westley said: "I don't think people will underestimate us as Stevenage has got a reputation for being a difficult side to play." Exeter's summer signings Guillem Bauza and Danny Coles are hoping to shake off injuries in time to make their debuts. Spanish striker Bauza, who joined the Grecians as a free agent in May following a short-term spell at Northampton, has been struggling with a groin problem. Defender Coles, signed from Bristol Rovers, has not featured since the Grecians' opening pre-season friendly against Dorchester due to a thigh strain. Recent loan signing Nicholas Bignall is expected to make his first appearance following his arrival from Reading. Another new signing, Callum McNish - released by Southampton at the end of last season - struck a spectacular opening goal for the Grecians in their 2-0 win at Chippenham and is hoping to make his debut.

Match Report
Stevenage and Exeter share the spoils Graham Westley's Stevenage earned a creditable point in their first game in English football's third tier. Borough secured their place in npower League One courtesy of a play-off final victory over Torquay last season but could not overcome Exeter in a drab encounter at Broadhall Way. The hosts did fashion the first opening, though, with Scott Laird seeing his long-range strike saved by Artur Krysiak. That was the only real opportunity of a poor first half as the sides battled for the initiative without creating clear-cut chances. The second period initially threatened to herald an improvement as Craig Reid forced a smart save from Krysiak. But that proved a false dawn as the stalemate continued, although James Dunne could have put the visitors ahead late as he hit straight at Alan Julian. Indeed, the game trend continued for the remaining minutes with the sides seemingly happy to settle for a point rather than force victory on the opening day of the season.
