Match Report
St Mirren grabbed their first back-to-back wins this season as they dumped a hard-working Hamilton side 2-1 at New Douglas Park.
A thrilling encounter had two own goals and a missed penalty, as well as a soaking for Accies keeper Tomas Cerny as the sprinkler system inexplicably leapt into life in an incident-packed first half.
Accies started the game well and in 12 minutes captain Alex Neil picked out Richard Offiong on the right and his bullet cross was inches ahead of James McArthur, when any contact almost certainly would have resulted in the opening goal.
Moments later Offiong headed a David Graham cross over at the far post.
St Mirren made Hamilton pay for that with their first attack, when Dennis Wyness' strong run led to him picking out Franco Miranda, who dispatched a crisp shot past the despairing dive of Cerny and into the bottom right corner.
Accies levelled two minutes later when former St Mirren winger Mark Corcoran's free-kick on the right was deflected past keeper Mark Howard by the luckless Jack Ross.
However, Accies were penalised after 32 minutes when Simon Mensing was adjudged to have tugged Steven Robb's shirt in the box. Billy Mehmet stepped up, but his spot-kick was brilliantly parried by Cerny, who also saved the striker's headed rebound.
St Mirren scored what proved to be the winner after 41 minutes when Miranda's cross from the left was headed on by Mehmet, Cerny misjudged its flight and the ball deflected off the unlucky Chris Swailes and into the net.
The second half was a far tamer affair as Accies tried to attack Saints, but without really putting pressure on keeper Howard.
St Mirren could have stretched their lead in 61 minutes when Gary Brady's cross from the right picked out Robb in acres of space, but Cerny was able to block his effort on the line, before Mehmet fired the rebound over.
At the other end ten minutes later Neil's cross from the left was stabbed just past the far post by McArthur.
Offiong, Brian Easton and McCarthy went close, before Gary Mason's shot was saved by Cerny following good set-up play by subs Craig Dargo and Andy Dorman.
