Match Preview
Sturrock facing happy dilemma Paul Sturrock has positive selection decisions to make as his Southend side entertain fellow high-fliers Shrewsbury on Friday night, aiming to go top of League Two for a few hours at least. Midfielders Ryan Hall and Anthony Grant come back into contention having served one-match suspensions last weekend for accruing five bookings this season. Jean-Paul Kalala and Ryan Leonard helped secure a stunning 4-0 triumph away to Rotherham and the pair will be hoping to retain their starting berths against Shrews. Fit-again striker Neil Harris returned to United`s XI at the Don Valley Stadium and duly grabbed his first goal of the season. Midfielder Lee Sawyer (thigh) and long-term absentee Barry Corr (knee) are the only two players missing, but both continue to make good progress and will be available sooner rather than later. Shrewsbury face a defensive reshuffle as second meets third in the league. Reuben Hazell sustained a serious knee injury during last weekend's 2-0 victory over Torquay and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with a visit to a specialist set to provide a full diagnosis. But Shrews are boosted by the earlier-than-expected return of Shane Cansdell-Sherriff (hamstring), while skipper Ian Sharps (calf) was also poised to be back in training on Thursday. Both have missed the last two matches. Meanwhile, fellow defender Jermaine Grandison suffered a swollen knee and has been feeling it in training this week but is expected to be okay. Long-term absentee Carl Regan (calf) is likely to return to training in a week`s time but the defender will need another week to 10 days of fitness training before he is considered for selection.

Match Report
Shrimpers soar to the summit Penalties from Liam Dickinson and Neil Harris plus a goal from Mark Phillips put Southend top of the League Two table with a 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury. Dickinson dispatched his spot-kick into the bottom-right corner in the 27th minute with Town goalkeeper Ben Smith diving in the opposite direction, after Jermaine Grandison had needlessly shoved Harris in the box. Phillips stabbed home a loose ball after Smith fumbled Ryan Hall's free-kick in the first minute of stoppage time before Harris put the final nail in the coffin with a last-gasp penalty following Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's foul. The Shrimpers took the initiative from the off, Jean-Paul Kalala's crossfield pass finding Dickinson, who forced a good save out of Smith at the left post, before the Shrewsbury keeper pulled off a fine double save to keep the Blues at bay. Ryan Leonard's volley from the right deflected dangerously off Connor Goldson but Smith reacted quickly to parry the ball, and he then pushed Dickinson's follow-up out for a corner when it was easier for the striker to score. Shrewsbury hit back with James Collins forcing a save out of Glenn Morris before Southend wasted some good chances to increase their lead. They nearly paid the price when Grandison smashed a shot off the underside of the bar, but Phillips took advantage to slot home after Smith failed to control Hall's free-kick. And Harris' penalty kick into the top centre of the goal following Cansdell-Sherriff's foul on Hall confirmed the victory.
