Selection poser for Shrews boss Southend`s Peter Gilbert should shrug off a groin injury to face Shrewsbury. The left-back was substituted in the midweek victory over Oxford with the problem but is likely to be fit enough to face the Shrews at Roots Hall. While Gilbert should be fit, fellow defender Graham Coughlan is set to miss out. The veteran centre-half picked up a hamstring injury against Barnet and is unlikely to feature this weekend. There is better news regarding the fitness of goalkeeper Glenn Morris, who has recovered from a bout of the flu. However, the former Leyton Orient goalkeeper is unlikely to replace Rhys Evans, who should start for the Shrimpers after three straight victories. Shrews boss Graham Turner has plenty of options but could well keep faith with the same XI who saw off Burton 3-0 in midweek. Turner added five new faces on deadline day but only midfielder David Davis took part in Tuesday`s emphatic victory over the Brewers - with defender Paul Downing, midfielder Nicky Wroe and goalkeeper Lee Nicholls now expected to come into contention at Roots Hall. Fellow signing Kelvin Lomax is nearing his comeback from ligament trouble and will soon be available for selection. Jermaine Grandison also turned his loan move from Coventry into a permanent deal and, having returned from a slight hamstring injury to face Burton, is again expected to line up this weekend. Winger Jon Taylor marked his full league debut with a brace against Albion and will be difficult to replace, as will the rest of the XI who started at the Greenhous Meadow including recalled striker Matt Harrold. Town have been boosted by the return to full training of striker Nathan Elder this week after nine months out with knee ligament damage, although he now needs to build up his fitness before being considered for first-team action.

In-form duo fire Shrews to victory Jon Taylor and Matt Harrold secured a 2-0 win for Shrewsbury as they halted Southend's three-match winning streak. Taylor grabbed a brace on Tuesday in his first league start, with Harrold getting the other goal in a 3-1 win over Burton Albion. And it was Taylor who broke the deadlock at Roots Hall after Harrold picked up a stray Blair Sturrock pass and released Taylor, who fired in the bottom left-hand corner in the 42nd minute. Former Southend striker Harrold doubled the advantage on the hour when James Collins latched onto a ball over the top and teed up his strike partner who unleashed a left-footed shot into the right of the goal. Harrold had earlier had a header saved by Southend goalkeeper Rhys Evans, while the custodian saved a header from six yards from substitute Tom Bradshaw in the 90th minute. Southend had efforts off target but their only shots on goal came from Ryan Hall's curling effort which was saved by Shrews goalkeeper Ben Smith in the first half and a tame Craig Easton effort that Smith comfortably dealt with.
