Match Preview

Lambert worry for Saints Southampton will check on striker Rickie Lambert ahead of the visit of Oldham. Lambert required stitches after taking a nasty whack to the head against Huddersfield last Saturday but Saints are hopeful he will be fit. Skipper Dean Hammond serves a one-match ban after collecting his fifth booking of the season at the weekend with France under-21 international Morgan Schneiderlin his likely replacement. Frazer Richardson could finally be in line for his debut some four months after joining the club from Charlton. Richardson suffered a dislocated shoulder in pre-season but has proved his fitness in the reserves and will push Danny Butterfield for the right-back slot. Midfielder Paul Wotton is still sidelined with a back injury and striker David Connolly has a stomach problem.MSUBBED Oldham boss Paul Dickov could name an unchanged side. Midfielder Andy Holdsworth, who would not have commanded a place in the starting line-up, is ruled out through a shin injury. He had been complaining of pain in the last week, although scans have revealed no stress fracture as was feared. The Latics this week released full-back Rodrigue Dikaba after less than two months at the club. The 24-year-old defender, who played just twice for the Latics, was injured on international duty with DR Congo but failed to return to Boundary Park. Dickov has no other new injury or suspension concerns but veteran defender Sean Gregan, 36, has joined Fleetwood Town on a three-month loan deal.

Match Report

Prodigy wins it for Saints Teenage winger Alex Chamberlain notched his first league goal with the winner as Southampton came from behind to beat Oldham 2-1. The 17-year-old, son of former England winger Mark Chamberlain, came on as a substitute and collected the ball 25 yards out as Oldham failed to clear a free-kick and kicked his way past a couple of defenders before firing his shot across Oldham keeper Dean Brill. The goal completed the comeback for Southampton who trailed to a well-crafted 22nd-minute goal as The Latics' Chris Taylor fed an inch-perfect pass for Dean Furman to score from a tight angle. Southampton levelled in first-half injury time when Adam Lallana was fouled by the right corner flag and picked himself up to fire in a free-kick which was headed home at the near post by defender Jose Fonte. Southampton owed their win, though, to a spectacular save from keeper Kelvin Davis who sprung to his left to claw away substitute Dean Kelly's header in the fifth minute of injury time as the Saints ended Oldham's unbeaten four-match run.
