Right-back slot up for grabs Jermaine Grandison and Carl Regan will compete to fill Shrewsbury's right-back slot for the visit of promotion rivals Gillingham. James Hurst's decision not to extend his loan stay in Shropshire and instead pen a deal with npower League One Chesterfield has provided the defensive vacancy. Manager Graham Turner must now decide who steps in as the Shrews return to League Two action following last weekend's narrow 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Middlesbrough. Everton loanee James Wallace has also opted not to prolong his spell at the Greenhous Meadow in favour of a stint in the third tier with Stevenage. That, however, has enabled Turner to bring in David McAllister from Sheffield United and the midfielder comes into contention for his Shrews debut. Midfielder Nicky Wroe (foot) and defender Reuben Hazell (knee) continue to miss out. Loan signing Gavin Tomlin comes into the reckoning for his Gillingham debut but Danny Kedwell is set to miss out. Tomlin on Thursday completed a loan switch from Dagenham until the end of the season and his arrival is timely, with fellow forward Kedwell struggling to recover in time from a broken rib sustained against Stoke last weekend. Midfielder Lewis Montrose suffered a suspected broken bone in his hand during training earlier this week but will be okay to feature, while strikers Dennis Oli and Stefan Payne are both fit. Left-back Joe Martin, however, serves the second game of his two-match suspension for his dismissal in the 1-0 win over Aldershot. Simon King (knee), Danny Spiller (ankle), Barry Fuller and Adam Birchall (both knee) remain sidelined.

Shrews claim vital win Shrewsbury kept in touch with the League Two pacesetters after seeing off fellow high fliers Gillingham 2-0. Goals from Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Mark Wright sealed only a second win in six games in all competitions for Graham Turner's men. Central defender Cansdell-Sherriff broke the deadlock in emphatic style after 30 minutes. Gillingham were unable to clear a corner and when it fell to Cansdell-Sherriff 12 yards out, the Australian cracked home a rasping volley. Shrewsbury almost doubled their advantage just before the break but winger Jon Taylor fired just wide after exchanging passes with Marvin Morgan. Gillingham were improved after the restart and Chris Whelpdale cracked a long range drive just wide but Shrewsbury always looked more dangerous and, after James Collins fired just off target, they wrapped up the points three minutes from time. Jermaine Grandison's deflected cross ran kindly for Wright and the winger slammed in an unstoppable shot from 12 yards for his eighth goal of the season.
