Match Preview

Same again for Turner? Graham Turner may well opt to keep an unchanged XI for the visit of league leaders Chesterfield. The Shrewsbury boss watched his side clinch a welcome first win in six attempts at Accrington on Tuesday night, James Collins bagging a brace and Mark Wright the other in a 3-1 triumph. And, having not even seen fit to make any substitutions during the course of the 90 minutes, he is unlikely to make changes to his winning formula. Captain Ian Sharps shrugged off a dead leg to start at the Crown Ground and was joined in defence by debutant full-back Jermaine Grandison following his loan switch from Coventry. Goalkeeper Ben Smith was also recalled for his first league appearance since August and performed well. Should Turner opt to try and counter John Sheridan`s side then he does have options from the bench in the form of Lionel Ainsworth, Jake Robinson, Matt Harrold and Sean McAllister. Deane Smalley is set for a recall for Chesterfield. Manager John Sheridan has indicated that Smalley will start at The Greenhous Stadium. The on-loan Oldham forward was the star man in the win at Southend. However, he was back on the bench against Stevenage last weekend. "Deane will play at Shrewsbury," said Sheridan. "He's got a bit of confidence and I'm not afraid to make changes. I don't like swapping and changing too much but I do it for the benefit of the team. "He was our best player at Southend and it was difficult to leave him out. He came on for 15 minutes in the win over Stevenage and looked sharp again." Veteran striker Jack Lester is likely to make way for Smalley`s return to the side. Fellow forwards Dean Morgan and Scott Boden remain out with ankle injuries but defender Scott Griffiths should play after returning on loan from Peterborough, while Javan Vidal will also be included in the squad after signing on loan from Manchester City.

Match Report

Lee keeps Shrews at bay Chesterfield produced a dogged display to hold Shrewsbury to a goalless draw at Greenhous Meadow. Tommy Lee was the busier of the two keepers as he saved well from Shrewsbury's new strike partnership of James Collins and Tom Bradshaw. But he saved the best of his first-half saves by denying Craig Disley when he was clean through. At the other end Deane Smalley squandered a good headed chance. The second half was packed with chances, with Lee again saving well from Collins and Bradshaw and Steve Leslie floating a free-kick onto the top of the net. Danny Whittaker was just over from 20 yards for the visitors but the miss of the match one minute from the end went to Smalley as he managed to lift the ball over from close range.
