Madine in doubt for Megson Sheffield Wednesday pair Gary Madine and Giles Coke are injury doubts for the home clash with Notts County. Striker Madine faces a late fitness test after being forced off with a calf injury in the midweek win at Oldham, while midfielder Coke missed out on Tuesday night due to a hamstring strain. Clinton Morrison replaced Madine and could continue should the former Carlisle forward fail to make it, but manager Gary Megson also has the option of either Neil Mellor or Paul Heffernan, both unused substitutes in midweek. If he proves his fitness, Coke may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench after fellow midfielder Chris Sedgwick scored twice at Oldham. Winger Jermaine Johnson is in contention again following his month-long lay-off due to illness. The Owls, eight points above the relegation zone, last won at home in the league on December 11 against Bristol Rovers. Notts County manager Paul Ince is sweating on the fitness of Lee Hughes. The 12-goal striker has been occupying the sidelines with a hip injury and will have to pass a late fitness test if he is to be included in the squad. Fellow striker Karl Hawley is also a doubt while defender Krystian Pearce missed the midweek defeat to Peterborough after suffering a head injury in training and is also struggling to be fit. Stephen Darby returned to the starting line-up against Posh a week earlier than planned following an ankle injury and, if he feels no recurrence of the problem, is set to retain his place at right-back. Fellow defender Graeme Lee made his first start for six months against Darren Ferguson's side on Tuesday and looks likely to make his 50th appearance for County.

Gow spot-kick sees off Owls Alan Gow's first-half penalty proved decisive as Notts County eased their relegation fears with a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday. In what was a contentious decision, Gow was given his opportunity - which he duly converted - to put the Magpies ahead in the 26th minute when he went down under pressure from Mark Beevers. After Njogu Demba-Nyren spurned an opportunity to double the advantage on the stroke of half-time, the visitors continued to dominate after the interval. Demba-Nyren was denied by the foot of the Wednesday goalkeeper before Ivan Sproule fired wide after good approach play. The Owls came back into the game after that, though, with Clinton Morrison seeing his goalbound header well saved. And, despite creating a couple of openings late on, Wednesday fell to a defeat which leaves them looking over their shoulders in League One.
