Match Preview
Johnson battling to be fit
Jermaine Johnson is facing a race to be fit for Sheffield Wednesday's npower League One opener against Dagenham at Hillsborough.
The winger twisted his knee during the final pre-season warm-up match against Doncaster on Saturday and limped off after 65 minutes.
New signings Gary Teal, Chris Sedgwick and Daniel Jones could all take up Johnson's wide midfield berth, although former Wolves man Jones is primarily a left-back.
The Owls have been one of the busiest sides in the Football League during the summer transfer window and Neil Mellor and Clinton Morrison could provide an eye-catching debut partnership up front.
Former Manchester City and England Under-21 goalkeeper Nicky Weaver became the latest arrival when penning a one-year deal on Thursday.
Weaver is expected start between the posts following Lee Grant's summer move to Burnley.
Dagenham manager John Still has doubts over defenders Scott Doe and Abu Ogogo.
Doe picked up a calf injury in the pre-season game at Braintree last weekend while full-back Ogogo suffered a hip injury in the same match.
Both players have a chance of playing the biggest game in the club`s history and will be assessed before kick-off.
Striker Paul Benson (ankle) is likely to start up front despite being linked with a move to Charlton with new signing Gavin Tomlin likely to partner him on his debut.
The Daggers have never played in the third tier of league football before and also never faced the Owls in a league fixture.

Match Report
Wednesday off to winning start Sheffield Wednesday made a winning start to life in League One as they eased to a 2-0 win over Dagenham. Alan Irvine's men were roared on by a crowd in excess of 23,000 and with 15 minutes on the clock, those fans could have been forgiven for thinking Wednesday's return to the Championship would be a easy process. Scott Doe was helpless in the 13th minute as he turned Gary Teale's well worked corner into his own net, deflecting the ball past veteran goalkeeper Tony Roberts to give the Owls the upper hand. The Wednesday fans were soon celebrating a second when Clinton Morrison showed his predatory instincts by smashing home from six yards out after latching on to Chris Sedgwick's cushioned header. Roberts soon denied Morrison a second with a smart stop, while Marcus Tudgay saw his glancing header tipped over before Wednesday took their foot off the gas to give Dagenham some hope of a recovery. John Still's side enjoyed plenty of possession after the restart but rarely troubled Owls keeper Nicky Weaver until late on when substitute John Nurse steered a header wide from an excellent centre by Damien McCrory, before Peter Gain hit the bar.
