Match Preview

Owls duo set for home bow Sheffield Wednesday's recent signings Michael Morrison and Reda Johnson are expected to make their home debuts against Charlton. The 22-year-old defenders, both signed on a permanent basis for undisclosed fees from Leicester and Plymouth respectively last week, went straight into the starting line-up at Bristol City on Saturday. The Owls are still without defenders Jon Otsemobor (calf) and Lewis Buxton (hamstring), so Morrison is likely to start again at right-back. Midfielder Giles Coke has returned to full training following his recent knee operation, but will not be in contention this weekend, so James O'Connor could partner Tommy Miller again in central midfield. Darren Potter is also in contention. The Owls, 3-0 winners in their FA Cup clash at Bristol City, have lost their last two league matches. Nathan Eccleston will go straight into Charlton's squad. The 20-year-old Liverpool striker has joined on loan until the end of the season and is set to make his debut as the managerless Addicks chase their first league win since November. Ipswich loanee Lee Martin returns after he was ineligible to play in the FA Cup defeat at Tottenham last Sunday, but fellow forward Paul Benson is in the middle of a three-match ban. Two more strikers, Akpo Sodje (shoulder) and Joe Anyinsah (groin), came through unscathed against Spurs after their recent spells on the sidelines and will be available again. Full-backs Chris Solly (ankle) and Kelly Youga (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Match Report

Owls deny Addicks Sheffield Wednesday staged a stirring fightback to rescue a 2-2 draw against promotion rivals Charlton. With new manager Chris Powell watching from the stands, the Addicks went ahead in the fourth minute when Therry Racon's cross from the left was headed down by Christian Dailly for Scott Wagstaff to fire home from eight yards. Two minutes later, Owls skipper Darren Purse hauled down Joe Anyinsah inside the box and top scorer Johnnie Jackson sent Nicky Weaver the wrong way with a spot-kick for his 14th goal of the season. Wednesday blew a chance to hit back when Reda Johnson was pushed by Gary Doherty in the area in the 38th minute but keeper Rob Elliot dived full length to keep out Tommy Miller's penalty. The double substitution of Paul Heffernan and Jermaine Johnson paid off almost immediately when a free-kick was not cleared properly and Heffernan lashed home the loose ball from eight yards in the 47th minute. And after Anyinsah had missed a sitter, Chris Sedgwick's left-wing cross was headed in by Johnson for his first Owls goal on his home debut. As Wednesday pushed for the winner, Heffernan's header hit the post in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time.
