Blades hunt for Iron after Steel City setback Sheffield United will be without Kevin McDonald again for the home clash with Scunthorpe. The midfielder missed Sunday's Steel City derby defeat with a hamstring problem and has yet to recover, with boss Danny Wilson expecting him to be out for a number of weeks. McDonald's replacement at Hillsborough, Nick Montgomery, suffered a kick to the calf which will need checking before kick-off, though Wilson hinted he may be tempted to change his central midfield pairing of Montgomery and Michael Doyle anyway. Fellow midfielder Lee Williamson, who could move into a central role if Montgomery fails to make it, suffered a knock to his knee against the Owls but is expected to be fit. On-loan striker Will Hoskins is pushing to start as the Blades look to restore their five-point gap over Wednesday in the first of their two games in hand. "Even if we won on Sunday this would have been a very important game," Wilson said. "This is one of our games in hand and it's a very important game. Three points will be absolutely paramount." Paul Reid is expected to keep his place in the Scunthorpe defence for their trip to Bramall Lane. Reid has broken his nose in both of the Iron's last two matches but, after seeking medical advice, boss Alan Knill has been told the centre-back can feature. "He knocked the nose again on Saturday (in the goalless draw against Brentford) but that's just one of those things," Knill told the club's official website. "It's not causing him any problems breathing-wise, which was the main concern. It just so happens that every game he seems to get knocked on it." Full-back Jamie Reckord is also available after extending his loan deal from Wolves. Midfielder Jimmy Ryan is edging closer to a return from a long-term knee injury but the game is likely to come too soon.

Blades bounce back against Iron Promotion-chasing Sheffield United came from behind to beat lowly Scunthorpe 2-1 with second-half goals from Lee Williamson and Stephen Quinn. Scunthorpe took the lead with their first real opening. Mark Duffy ran at the defence before beating Steve Simonsen with a low shot from just inside the area after 31 minutes. The visitors had Sam Togwell sent off in the 38th minute when he was shown a red card following a challenge on Michael Doyle. Williamson scored a 58th-minute equaliser, meeting Ched Evans' cross with a volley following good work from Quinn. Scunthorpe's Jon Parkin put a shot on target which was saved by Simonsen and the lively Duffy had an effort deflected wide. But Alan Knill's men had to defend for much of the second period and Quinn struck an 82nd-minute winner with a long-range shot which took a deflection.
