Match Report
Sheffield Wednesday continued their recent improved form with a comfortable victory over strugglers Blackpool.
It was Blackpool's fourth league defeat on the trot - their worst run in the Championship - and in those games they have mustered just one goal.
Wednesday showed a refreshing attitude and quickly revealed they had not just come to Bloomfield Road collect a point.
Chasing their second away win of the season, manager Brian Laws had his head in his hands as strikers Jermaine Johnson and Deon Burton squandered three early chances, Burton missing one sitter from just six yards out.
Lee Hendrie tried manfully to drive Blackpool forward from midfield but his side's attacking force tended to break down on the edge of the visitors penalty area against a well-organised Owls defence.
Wednesday's first goal came on 61 minutes ironically two minutes after they had lost their most potent attacking force, Johnson, to injury.
In what was his first touch, replacement Etienne Esajas put in a sweeping cross which cut out Blackpool's central defence and Marcus Tudgay thundered in on the blind side to score with a magnificent header.
Alan Gow hit the base of a post with a volley for Blackpool before Wednesday took control again with Burton hitting the bar with a pile-driver.
The striker made amends for his earlier misses with four minutes left when he out-jumped the static home defence to place a header past out-of-position Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka.
