Jonathan to hold the Forte for Scunny
Scunthorpe have been dealt a blow ahead of the visit of Preston after on-loan striker Freddie Sears was recalled by parent club West Ham.
Sears had been expected to stay at Glanford Park until January 3 but Hammers manager Avram Grant has decided to terminate the 21-year-old's loan in the hope he can add some firepower to his squad as he looks to drag his team off the bottom of the Barclays Premier League.
However, defender David Mirfin will return from a foot injury while Josh Wright, Michael O'Connor and Chris Dagnall have shaken off viruses.
Defensive trio Michael Raynes (thigh), Jim McNulty (ankle) and Niall Canavan (knee) remain sidelined while Jonathan Forte should come in for Sears.
Preston boss Darren Ferguson may call on midfielder Barry Nicholson.
The former Aberdeen man has been an unused substitute in five of the last six games as he feels his way back to full fitness after twice breaking a leg.
But Nicholson believes he has now reached full fitness and Ferguson could also have Matty James and Paul Coutts available after injury.
Iain Hume's 93-day stay from Barnsley has expired but the former Leicester striker is expected to return to Deepdale in a permanent transfer when the transfer window opens in January.
On-loan Manchester United striker Josh King has recovered from an ankle injury and could start up front against Ian Baraclough's struggling side.
