Ryan worry for Iron Scunthorpe midfielder Jimmy Ryan faces a late fitness test for the home clash with Chesterfield. The summer signing from Accrington, only three games into his comeback from a long-term cruciate knee ligament injury, is nursing a slight thigh strain. Manager Alan Knill, who has no other new injury or suspension problems, is hoping Ryan will be available. He told the club's official website: "Jimmy hasn't trained, he's just felt his thigh. To be fair, he's felt it for the week but we think he's going to be OK. "He's just come back after being out of action for a long time and his thigh is a little fatigued, so we just need to err on the side of caution." Cliff Byrne returned to the bench last week following a groin problem and is again in contention but fellow central defender Paul Reid remains sidelined with a similar injury. Knill will also be boosted by the return of midfielder Oliver Norwood, who has served his three-game suspension. Simon Ford has an outside chance of returning to the Chesterfield squad. Ford missed the Boxing Day defeat at Huddersfield with a knee problem and the defender will be assessed ahead of the final fixture of 2011. Gregor Robertson made his first appearance for eight months at the Galpharm Stadium and the Scot is likely to retain his place alongside Neal Trotman at the heart of the defence even if Ford is fit. Veteran striker Jack Lester will serve the second game of a three-match suspension, while midfielder Mark Randall remains out with a broken hand. Temitope Obadeyi has returned to Bolton following the end of his loan spell with John Sheridan's side, who are on a 13-game run without a league win.

Ryan late show denies Spireites An equaliser two minutes into stoppage time from midfielder Jimmy Ryan salvaged a 2-2 draw for struggling Scunthorpe against basement boys Chesterfield. The Iron looked set for a third successive home defeat as the Spireites capitalised on two second-half defensive errors by the home side. Scunthorpe broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Michael O'Connor curled a deep corner to the far post where centre-back Niall Canavan rose to head his first goal of the season. The visitors were back on level terms three minutes into the second half when Scunthorpe gifted away possession on the edge of their own box and substitute Scott Bowden rifled in a shot that went in off the far post. Alan Knill's men thought they had regained the lead after 65 minutes when Chris Dagnall headed home a corner from O'Connor, only to see it ruled out for a pushing offence. Five minutes later it was Chesterfield who were in front when a howler of a clearance by home keeper Sam Johnstone left an open goal for striker Craig Westcarr to find with a shot from 25 yards. Chesterfield looked set to end three months without a win until Ryan struck for Scunthorpe in the second minute of stoppage time, drilling a 25-yard shot through a crowded box and into the bottom corner past keeper Tommy Lee.
