Skipper faces fitness race Captain Cliff Byrne is facing a late fitness test as Scunthorpe look to to put a bad month behind them against Carlisle. Byrne is struggling with a groin injury and could join a lengthy Iron injury list as the club attempt to claim their first win in six matches. Also sidelined are goalkeeper Josh Lillis (knee), midfielder Damien Mozika (foot) and striker Matt Godden (hip/hernia), while Oliver Norwood will start a three match ban after his red card against Notts County. Norwood is likely to be replaced by Sam Togwell, who returns from a suspension of his own, while fellow midfielder Jimmy Ryan is also on the comeback trail. Ryan played for the reserves in midweek, his first competitive football since suffering a knee injury against Walsall in September. Striker Jordan Robertson is also pushing for a starting place, while Andrew Wright should return to the line-up having missed the match at Meadow Lane due to the birth of his child. On-loan defender Chris Chantler and striker Paddy Madden are pushing for their respective places in Carlisle's starting line-up. Manchester City centre-half Chantler, 20, made his first appearance for the Cumbrians when stepping off the bench in last week's FA Cup defeat at Charlton, while Madden also made a substitute's appearance following a four-month lay-off due to a broken bone in his foot. Manager Greg Abbott has no new injury or suspension problems, but striker Craig Curran (knee) remains doubtful. Defender Frank Simek, sidelined due to hip and calf problems since sustaining injury on the opening day of the season, is close to returning to the squad, but Christian Ribeiro, on loan from Bristol City, is expected to continue at right-back. The Cumbrians are chasing thier first away league win in four attempts.

Super sub Zoko melts Iron Substitute Francois Zoko snatched a dramatic injury-time goal to clinch a 2-1 victory for Carlisle at struggling Scunthorpe. Zoko lifted his shot over goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to earn the Cumbrians their fifth away win of the season and step up their top-six challenge. It was no more than the visitors deserved after dominating the first half and hitting the woodwork three times. That came after Scunthorpe, with only one win in their previous 11 games, took a fourth-minute lead when winger Andy Barcham curled a shot in to the top far corner from an acute angle for his sixth goal of the season. But with the home defence wobbling, Carlisle twice came close to a quick equaliser through two headers from leading marksman Lee Miller. Each effort came back off the woodwork and the Cumbrians were denied again when Peter Murphy rattled the crossbar after an error by young keeper Johnstone. Skipper Paul Thirlwell then had a shot deflected inches wide as the visitors, without a goal in their previous three away games in the league, piled on the pressure without having any luck again in front of goal. Carlisle were finally rewarded with a 64th-minute equaliser when midfielder James Berrett broke unchallenged into the box to drill a low shot into the far corner. Scunthorpe might twice have snatched a winner with substitute Jimmy Ryan and skipper Sam Togwell both missing golden chances with the goal at their mercy. But with the game in stoppage time, it was Zoko who won it for Carlisle.
