A five-star first-half performance at Celtic Park saw Scotland get their qualifying campaign off to a flyer against the group minnows from the Faroe Islands.
Scotland started with a front three of Kenny Miller, Kris Boyd and James McFadden and it didn't take long for the attacking formation to pay dividends as Darren Fletcher made 1-0 after only seven minutes.
Miller went past Jakub a Borg on the left flank before sending a low ball across goal. Darren Fletcher came in at the back post to knock the ball home past the despairing dive of the Faroe Islands keeper.
It didn't take long for Scotland to double their advantage as McFadden netted with a well-struck left-foot finish from the edge of the area.
Scotland made it three from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. Oli Johannesen tripped McFadden inside the box and Boyd converted the penalty despite a valiant attempt from the keeper.
The Scots were awarded another penalty six minutes later when Atli Danielsen handled the ball as he went in for a tackle. Miller stepped up to take the penalty and scored to notch his first goal at Celtic Park since his summer switch from Wolves.
Boyd netted his second of the afternoon to make it five. Fletcher slid the ball through to the frontman who saw his initial effort saved before netting the rebound.
The tempo of the game dropped after the break but McFadden went close on the hour mark, seeing his free-kick turned behind for a corner.
In the second half, Scotland were content to knock the ball around in the middle of the park. But substitute Garry O'Connor let fly with two long-range efforts which failed to trouble the keeper.
Boyd was denied a hat-trick ten minutes from the end when his downward header was scrambled to safety.
O'Connor eventually got his name on the scoresheet, notching the sixth goal to complete the scoring.
