Match Preview
Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is looking to build on his first goal in the Arena AufSchalke by celebrating a first win in the Champions League with the Royal Blues against Benfica.
The Dutch striker has scored in each of Schalke's last two games and now wants his goals to ensure the Gelsenkirchen-based club bounce back from their defeat to Lyon in their first group game by defeating Benfica.
"If we play like we did against Monchengladbach, then I am certain that we can beat Benfica," he told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper.
"We are playing a lot better now than in our previous matches."
Huntelaar would gladly trade his goals for three points on Wednesday night.
"Of course it was great for me to score my first goal in our own stadium, but it would have been a lot better had we won," he added.
His strike partner Raul was equally satisfied and dissatisfied with his first goal in a Schalke shirt on Saturday.
"I am happy and proud to have been able to help my team with a goal, but we must build on it now," he said.
"It will be easier for me and the team now I have scored my first goal. That gives me a boost.
"It takes a while for a new team to work well together, but you can see that something is emerging."
The two former Real Madrid strikers were supported by Jose Manuel Jurado on Saturday with Jefferson Farfan on the bench.
Manager Felix Magath is likely to pick the same team, although he has to make a change in defence due to the suspension of Benedikt Howedes.
Former Germany international Frank Fahrenhorst was tested alongside Christoph Metzelder in the back four in training yesterday, with Nicolas Plestan and Kyriakos Papadopoulos the two other possible options.
Benfica arrive having never won a game on German soil, but buoyed by a 1-0 win over Maritimo at the weekend.
Fabio Coentrao scored the decisive goal and the reported Bayern Munich target was rewarded with a new contract.
As the Portuguese club confirmed on their website, the 22-year-old full-back has committed himself to a new deal which expires in 2016, one year later than his previous contract.
As part of the new contract, a clause has been included which means the Portugal international will only be allowed to leave the club for a sum of 30 million euros.
Both sides have made similarly poor starts to their domestic campaigns with Schalke winning only one of their first six matches and Benfica winning three but also losing three of their opening games.

Match Report
Late boost for Schalke Schalke scored twice in the final 17 minutes to claim their first home win of the season as they beat Benfica 2-0. The Royal Blues had looked like they would endure another frustrating evening at the AufSchalke Arena until their Peru forward Jefferson Farfan fired them ahead in the 73rd minute. Summer signing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar then added a second five minutes from the end to underline the Gelsenkirchen club's recent revival. Schalke are now unbeaten in their past three games in all competitions, with Huntelaar scoring in all of those, in a run which ended their horrendous five-game losing sequence to start the season. Schalke lost 1-0 at Lyon in the middle of that losing sequence, but they always looked the more likely to bounce back with a win. Raul hit a post in the opening period that the hosts slowly took control of. They threatened first when Ivan Rakitic was fouled by Javi Garcia on the left. The Croatian stepped up to take the free-kick but his goal-bound effort was punched clear by Roberto. Javier Saviola then spurned Benfica's first sight on goal, and possibly their best of the game, when he side-footed wide of the left post from 12 yards. Roberto was again in the action to save from Lukas Schmitz and as the match went beyond the half hour mark Schalke's dominance was clear. Raul almost converted that onto the scoreboard when his left-footed strike from 12 yards thudded against the post before Huntelaar tried his luck from range but fired over. Rakitic was denied by Roberto again to keep the scores deadlocked at the break. Four minutes after the restart Schmitz shot wide from 20 yards, but it was a rare chance as the second period began slowly. Farfan briefly had a sight of goal but his effort was blocked by David Luiz. The Brazilian defender was them fouled at the other end but substitute Pablo Aimar's free-kick delivery was caught by Manuel Neuer. There looked little hope of a goal in the game before Farfan broke the deadlock 17 minutes from full-time. The Peru international was given space on the right-hand side of the area and he needed no second invitation to again try his luck with a low drive, which put his side ahead. With time ticking down Huntelaar then maintained his recent scoring run with a goal from 12 yards to seal a first home win in all competitions this season.
