Match Preview

Scott waits on Le Fondre Rotherham manager Andy Scott will hope he can call on the services of striker Adam Le Fondre for the clash with Oxford. Le Fondre, who has scored 54 goals in two seasons at Don Valley, has been the subject of two rejected bids from Sheffield Wednesday this week and continues to interest Coventry. Whether he is still a Millers player come Saturday remains to be seen, but Scott has several striking options and could hand debuts to summer signings Lewis Grabban, Chris Holroyd and Gareth Evans. Fellow new arrivals Danny Schofield (toe) and Luke Foster (hamstring) hope to shake off knocks picked up in pre-season while Conrad Logan, Ben Pringle and Troy Brown should also feature. Defender Johnny Mullins (dislocated knee) and Jamie Annerson (knee infection) are the only absentees. Scott said: "I am happy with what we have got and what the lads have done in pre-season has been very pleasing." Oxford head into the new campaign with a host of new signings vying for a starting spot. The U`s have recruited impressively over the summer and, as a result, have been installed as one of the favourites for promotion. New signing Ryan Clarke should get the nod in goal while Andrew Whing and veteran defender Michael Duberry should be handed starts. Peter Leven, Liam Davis and Peter Capaldi will be hopeful of debuts while Deane Smalley and Jon-Paul Pittman will be competing with James Constable and Tom Craddock for a spot in a strong-looking attacking unit. Midfielder Paul McLaren is almost certainly out with a calf injury and Harry Worley is still troubled by a knee problem.

Match Report

Lewis grabbing headlines after debut winner Lewis Grabban marked his debut with a sweet strike which earned Rotherham a 1-0 win over Oxford. Grabban, who followed manager Andy Scott north from Brentford this summer, struck home in the opening stages of the second half with the outside of his boot from 20 yards and Oxford had no answer, despite a late bout of pressure. Chris Wilder's side are among the favourites for promotion this season, though, and they lived up to their billing in the early exchanges with Asa Hall hitting the post from Damian Batt's free-kick and Michael Duberry criminally hitting the rebound over from close range. But they could not capitalise and Scott's side made the perfect start to the second period as they needed just three minutes to take the lead, with Grabban finishing with aplomb. Peter Leven had Oxford's best chance of finding a leveller when he shot wide after breaking free from a static Rotherham defence. But the hosts held on and could have doubled their lead but Ryan Clarke superbly denied Grabban.
