Match Preview

Scott prepares for Millers bow Andy Scott takes charge of Rotherham for the first time when Hereford visit Don Valley. The former Brentford manager, whose brother Rob spent seven years as a player with the Millers, was named as the permanent successor to Ronnie Moore after agreeing a three-year deal on Wednesday. Scott finds his new side in disarray having slipped from being automatic promotion candidates to four points adrift of the play-offs after a horror run of just five wins from 19 games. The 38-year-old will be without defender Johnny Mullins, who has undergone surgery on a dislocated kneecap, so Nick Fenton and Ryan Cresswell should continue as the central pairing. Goalkeeper Andy Warrington is still struggling with a foot injury which means Jamie Annerson, who admitted to making a mistake in the build-up to Cheltenham's equaliser in the 1-1 draw last week, will retain his place between the posts. Scott, who confirmed he would be selecting the side, must also decide whether to recall top scorer Adam Le Fondre, who found himself on the bench at Whaddon Road, with Tom Pope and Ryan Taylor being preferred in attack. Hereford hope to have Ryan Green available. The Bulls full-back is struggling with a shoulder problem sustained early in the second half of last weekend's stunning 3-0 victory over leaders Chesterfield but stands a good chance of recovering in time for the Don Valley Stadium clash. Otherwise, manager Jamie Pitman again has a full-strength squad to select from as he looks to extend the Bulls' impressive unbeaten run to four games. They have taken points from promotion chasers Gillingham, Wycombe and Chesterfield in recent outings. Should Green make it then Pitman is likely to keep faith the same XI who have started each one of those games. Defender Ryan Valentine (hip) has been training for the past three weeks and could make his return to action before the season is out, but fellow long-term absentee Dan Connor, who has also been sidelined with a hip injury, appears unlikely to feature again this term.

Match Report

Millers draw blank against Bulls Rotherham have surely waved farewell to their lingering play off hopes and failed to impress new boss Andy Scott after a disappointing goalless home draw with Hereford. As hard as Rotherham tried in the first half, they simply could not find a way through Hereford's massed defensive ranks, though the visitors could have taken the lead in only the second minute. Stuart Fleetwood chased Stefan Stam's long clearance and with home goalkeeper Jamie Annerson waiting on the edge of his area, Fleetwood almost nipped in to steal. But from then on it was almost all one-way traffic, with Top Pope and Ryan Taylor leading the charge and both going close. Ryan Cresswell had a header cleared off the line from a corner and was then inches wide with another header from Tom Newey's throw in. And Rotherham looked certain to score when Adam Bartlett fumbled Nicky Law's shot but Bartlett redeemed himself with a brave block on Ryan Taylor's follow up shot. Hereford showed more ambition after the break with two men up front and a belief they could grab all three points. And they almost did after 70 minutes when Joe Colbeck smashed a shot against the upright. But still most of the attacking came from Rotherham, but even when leading marksmen Adam Le Fondre came off the bench with 20 minutes to go, the home side could not find a way through.
