Match Preview

Harley rides back into action Jon Harley will be available for Rotherham's clash with AFC Wimbledon. The on-loan defender had to be withdrawn at half-time in last week's win at Hereford after taking a heavy knock to his head but he has suffered no ill-effects. Fellow defender Guy Branston is still struggling with a tendon problem in his foot so he will not take part in the Millers' first meeting with the Dons. Marcus Marshall is back from a one-game ban and will return to the squad but is unlikely to get in the starting XI. Defender Ryan Cresswell (ankle) and midfielder Mark Bradley (shoulder) have stepped up their recoveries from injuries while Gareth Evans (ankle) has also started light training, with all three set for a new year return. Callum McNaughton and Sammy Moore are out for AFC Wimbledon. On-loan defender McNaughton has gone back to West Ham for treatment on a knee injury he suffered in training this week and midfielder Moore is suspended after collecting five bookings. McNaughton's absence means Mat Mitchel-King, a summer signing from Crewe, is finally in line to make his debut after recovering from illness and then a back injury. The Dons are also boosted by the return of midfielder Rashid Yussuff after a knee injury and he could replace Moore in the starting line-up. Striker Christian Jolley is 10 days away from returning from a hamstring injury and winger Kieran Djilali is also out with a hamstring problem.

Match Report

Millers enjoy good fortune Rotherham rode their luck to claim a 1-0 home win over AFC Wimbledon, as the visitors spurned a series of second-half chances. Wimbledon should have led within the first minute when Ryan Jackson pulled the ball back from the right flank for Luke Moore, but unchallenged he spooned the ball high over the bar. And the visitors had to wait until the 35th minute for their second effort on goal, a Lee Minshull header from Jackson's cross which was just inches wide. In between two great saves by Seb Brown denied the home side the lead. After 20 minutes Brown dived to his left to turn Danny Harrison's powerful shot for a corner, and he followed that four minutes later with an even better save - turning Harrison's header for another corner. Wimbledon paid the price for some poor finishing after the break. Dale Tonge cleared Minshull's header off the line and Luke Moore and Jack Midson should both have scored with relatively easy headers. The full cost of those misses came back to haunt them in the 78th minute when Lewis Grabban chased a long ball down the left and pulled a pass back inside for Sam Wood to fire home off the inside of a post.
