Match Preview
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri believes he has the full backing of his players ahead of the Champions League last 16 clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Reports in the Italian press claimed there is a division in Roma's changing room after their recent disappointing results that have severely dented the Giallorossi's Scudetto ambitions.
"The coach is like the husband, he is the last to know," Ranieri said in a press conference.
"But this is just Roman gossip done for the love of the team. I always have enthusiasm because the players give it to me. I asked my players that if I was the problem then I would leave but they said no.
"We want to fight and we will do so until the end."
Roma fell 5-3 at Inter Milan before conceding a 2-0 defeat to Napoli on Saturday.
The result dropped Roma to eighth in the standings, 13 points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan.
Roma's main focus now will be on Europe's elite club competition but the Giallorossi are well aware they will have to raise their game if they wish to avoid another upset.
"This is a difficult season," Ranieri said.
"But we have to think of tomorrow's game and make amends for our defeat at the weekend. We have struggled defensively and this is something we have to improve on. I expect a beautiful game tomorrow against a very good side.
"Shakhtar are a great team and those that thought that this was a good draw for us will no doubt reconsider."
Ranieri is set to hand Francesco Totti a start after the captain came off the bench against Napoli.
Totti will partner Jeremy Menez and Mirko Vucinic in Roma's attack with the team's top scorer Marco Borriello sidelined with a muscular injury.
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has warned Roma they are ready to cause an upset at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Ukrainian champions, who have been on their domestic winter break since November, will make their first appearance in the last 16 of the competition tomorrow.
The last time both sides met was in the 2006-07 group stages and Shakhtar conceded a 4-0 defeat in Rome.
Lucescu believes they learned from those mistakes.
"The Roma fans create a certain pressure on opponents, but also on their own team," he said.
"I am sure that what we learned from our previous meeting will help us this time. Also the difference in class between football in eastern and western Europe is narrowing.
Many talented players have come to the east."
Shakhtar centre-back Olexandr Kucher will miss the clash because of a knee injury but could recover for the return leg on March 8.

Match Report
Shakhtar stun Roma Shakhtar Donetsk scored three goals in 13 minutes to claim a stunning come-from-behind win at Roma in Wednesday's first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash. Simone Perrotta put Roma ahead in the 28th minute before Jadson equalised a minute later after his effort took a deflection off Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi. Douglas Costa then gave the visitors a 36th-minute lead before Luiz Adriano made it 3-1 before half-time. Roma striker Jeremy Menez reduced arrears on the hour mark but the Italians could not find the equaliser. The result piles further pressure on Roma coach Claudio Ranieri, whose team went into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Napoli and 5-3 loss at Inter Milan. The hosts dominated the opening stages and should have taken the lead in the 20th minute but Nicolas Burdisso's close-range header from Francesco Totti's corner went inches wide of the far post. Midway through the first half, Vucinic's 30-yard strike went over the bar as Roma got closer, and the home side finally broke through soon after. Rodrigo Taddei's cross towards the far post found Perrotta and his powerful header got a touch from Shakhtar defender Razvan Rat before finding the back of the net. Roma's joy was shortlived as Mircea Lucescu's side equalised soon after. There was little Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni could do with Jadson's right-footed strike from the edge of the area which was deflected into the back of the net by De Rossi. A stunned Roma struggled to put a good move together and it was Shakhtar who went in front following a fast break. Jadson served Douglas Costa and his curled left-footed effort from the edge of the area towards the far post beat Doni. Things went from bad to worse for Roma in the 41st minute when defender Jon Arne Riise lost his footing and Douglas Costa was quick to steal the ball before finding an unmarked Luiz Adriano inside the area. The Brazilian made no mistake and fired past Doni for his team's third. Roma's players were booed by the home fans at the Stadio Olimpico as they came out for the second half and Ranieri's men showed more determination before reducing the deficit in the 61st minute. Menez got behind Perrotta's headed pass and fired into the top right corner to beat Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov. At the other end, Doni made sure to keep his team in the game as he came off his line to prevent an opportunity for Luiz Adriano. In the 72nd minute, Henrikh Mkhitaryan's shot from the edge of the area went inches wide of the far post. Roma surged forward desperately in search of the equaliser and almost found it eight minutes from time, but Totti's right-footed shot from the heart of the area was kept out by Pyatov. Shakhtar held on for an impressive win in their first appearance in the last 16 of the competition.
