Match Preview

No changes for Hill Rochdale boss Keith Hill looks set to name unchanged side for the home clash with Walsall. Dale recorded an impressive 2-0 victory at Southampton last weekend and now go in search of their first home win of the season. Hill has no injury or suspension concerns and is keen for his side not to suffer distraction after last weekend's famous win on the south coast. After successive away wins against Brentford and Saints, Hill said: "We have to guard against expectancy, it can be a very dangerous thing. "We are in a new league and we have to remain balanced with regard our expectations. "We are work in progress and despite a few good results and good performances we still remain so." New signing David Davis is in line for his Walsall debut having been handed Premier League clearance. The midfielder penned an initial month-long loan from Wolves on Thursday and will go straight into contention as the Saddlers look to end a three-match losing streak. Striker Darren Byfield has recovered from an Achilles problem and will be available while Ryan McGivern and Will Grigg are also back in contention after their international commitments. However, manager Chris Hutchings continues to be without forward Steve Jones (ankle), who is in the last stage of his recovery, and the versatile Richard Taundry (knee) who will be missing for the next three weeks. Striker Alex Nicholls serves the final game of his three-match ban.

Match Report

Jones fires Dale to victory Gary Jones scored his sixth goal of the season to earn Rochdale's first home win of the season with an entertaining 3-2 win over Rochdale. Skipper Jones scored from the spot after being brought down by Clayton McDonald after 69 minutes to secure Dale their first home win of the campaign. Walsall snatched the lead four minutes in when Darren Byfield's delivery found Jon Macken, six yards out with his back to goal. The striker turned Craig Dawson and side-footed past Josh Lillis. The home side took control of the game but rarely threatened Jon Brain's goal until the 28th minute when Brian Barry-Murphy's corner was fumbled by the Saddlers' stopper into the path of debutant Josh Thompson and he hooked home from six yards. Brain was at fault for Dale's second goal, spilling a shot from Chris O'Grady. As the ball trickled towards the goal Anthony Elding was on hand to ensure it crossed the line. The hosts' lead lasted seconds - Byfield levelling the scores in spectacular fashion, his 30-yard stunner beating Lillis and flying into the top corner of the net. Jones put Dale in the driving seat with his spot-kick just after the hour mark while Dawson had an effort ruled out for an infringement having headed home Barry-Murphy's corner.
