Match Preview
Injury problems for Rangers Lee McCulloch is one of several players who will miss Rangers' Clydesdale Bank Premier League game against Motherwell. The midfielder is sidelined for the next couple of weeks after suffering a groin injury. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor is suspended after receiving a retrospective ban, while the visit of Craig Brown's men comes too soon for James Beattie and Kirk Broadfoot. Rangers are also without Nikica Jelavic as he recovers from ankle ligament damage. Manager Walter Smith has branded the Scottish Football Association's disciplinary system unfair in the wake of McGregor's ban. The goalkeeper was given a one-match suspension for a kick aimed at Aberdeen's Chris Maguire after the incident was viewed by the SFA's review panel a couple of weeks after the incident. McGregor's punishment was handed out after team-mate Nikica Jelavic was ruled out of action for several months with ankle ligament damage sustained in a challenge with Ian Black, which earned the Hearts midfielder only a yellow card. "That's one of the complaints you would have, I don't think there is any doubt about it," Smith admitted. "They are willing to put the referee under scrutiny for missing something, yet not put him under scrutiny for something he maybe didn't judge properly. "We have seen a player suspended for what they are considering to be intent and we've got another one out for three months for something else. We are disappointed to lose him but we get on with it." The decision to ban McGregor was taken while he was on international duty with the Scotland team, earning plaudits for his performances. Smith added: "I don't think anybody, including the authorities, is happy with the situation as it is at the present moment. "I think there are quite a few anomalies but we have to go by the ruling at the present moment. "Certainly, it led to a slightly embarrassing situation for the SFA, where they were having to ban a player they were playing on the day. It's just one of those things that happened. "Ourselves and Celtic appear much more regularly on the telly than others and are probably under more scrutiny. If we have a disciplinary system that applies to one, it should apply to all. "But it's been there for ages, it's just something that I feel is a wee bit unfair but we have to put up with it." All well for Well Motherwell have a full squad available for the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash against Rangers. Marc Fitzpatrick (knee) and Shaun Hutchinson (hamstring) have been fighting to get back to full fitness. But they and Esteban Casagolda, who has recovered from knee surgery, may struggle to get back into the in-form team. Boss Brown said: "We go to Ibrox with no inferiority complex. I firmly believe that we can go to Rangers and take something from the game. We have a terrific record away from home and it's something we would like to maintain. "Perhaps our fans are now becoming a little more accustomed to success. Certainly our three victories away from home have given our travelling support fantastic encouragement - anyone that has been to Kilmarnock, Perth or Edinburgh has come back in a happy mood. "I'd love them to come back from Ibrox similarly cheerful."

Match Report
Connell earns Mariners point Alan Connell's second-half strike was enough to earn Grimsby a 1-1 draw with Southport. Peter Bore could have opened the scoring early on for Grimsby when he hit the crossbar but it was the visitors who took a surprise lead after 25 minutes when Liam Blakeman's stunning 30-yard strike flew straight into the bottom corner of the net. The impressive Blakeman then had two chances to add to his tally but blazed both efforts over the bar. Connell drew Grimsby level after 73 minutes when he beat the keeper from 18 yards after a neat assist from substitute Lee Peacock. The Mariners could have won it late on but Peacock's shot was straight at goalkeeper Tony McMillan.
