Brown: Aluko should be welcomed back
Manager Craig Brown has urged Aberdeen fans not to aim abuse at former player Sone Aluko during the Clydesdale Bank Premier League game against Rangers.
The winger quit the Pittodrie club when his contract ended in the summer and joined the Scottish champions in November.
Aluko has impressed so far for Rangers and is likely to be named in the team who welcome the Dons to Ibrox this weekend.
Brown said: "It is not uncommon to play against players who used to play for you, that happens quite regularly and Sone is no exception.
"He is a popular guy and a likeable lad so I don't think there will be any animosity.
"There will be a determination, of course, to show that we are as good as or better than he is.
"I would ask the fans, although I don't think the Aberdeen fans would be offensive to him, to not be critical because he gave good service here.
"You've got to wish him well in his career and not be churlish about it.
"I'm hoping the fans won't give him a hard time and simply acknowledge what he did for Aberdeen."
Aberdeen have not registered a win at Ibrox for more than two decades and Brown believes self-belief is key to any hopes of ending that unwanted record.
He said: "It is the self-fulfilling prophecy. If we keep telling ourselves that it is impossible to win there, that is what will happen.
"It is not impossible, far from it. If the players believe they can do it, there is more chance of us doing it.
"Any negativity will not be in my mind, and will not be in the players' minds, when they go out there at Ibrox.
"I wouldn't say it is unacceptable but I would say it is disappointing that we have not won down there for so long."
Defender Rory McArdle faces a fitness test on a knee injury ahead of the clash.
Midfielder Rob Milsom is unlikely to make the trip to Ibrox after missing the last couple of games through injury.
Midfielders Isaac Osbourne and Peter Pawlett are both out of the clash with Rangers with hamstring problems.
Rangers manager Ally McCoist is hoping to add to the capture of Mervan Celik by securing the signature of Estonian defender Enar Jaager.
Celik became McCoist's first signing of the January transfer window when the Scottish champions confirmed he had joined the club on a three-and-half-year deal.
McCoist now wants Jaager to be the next player to commit to a move to Ibrox after impressing while on trial with Honduran midfielder Jorge Claros this week.
The Rangers boss said: "Both have done very well and we have been really impressed.
"Jaager is a very solid full-back and we will be looking to make him an offer.
"He trained on Monday, played in a game on Tuesday and did very well and looked impressive again in training.
"We are hoping to talk to his representatives and make him an offer.
"Jorge Claros, to be fair to the lad, came in from Miami late on Sunday night and appeared for training on Monday morning - that would be a shock to anybody's system.
"He played in the game on Tuesday and looked very, very comfortable and has progressed on Wednesday and Thursday.
"I'm hopeful that Jorge can stay for another week."
Allan McGregor is set for a return to action.
The goalkeeper missed last week`s victory at St Johnstone with a thigh strain but has recovered from the problem, while defender Dorin Goian is also available for selection despite suffering a facial injury.
Midfielders Steven Naismith and Jamie Ness, forward Kyle Lafferty and full-back Steven Whittaker are all still sidelined through injury.
Dons deny Rangers
Rangers' Clydesdale Bank Premier League title hopes took another blow when they were forced to fight back from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen.
Kari Arnason opened the scoring in the second half, before Maurice Edu levelled four minutes later but neither side had the cutting edge to claim the winner.
The result was not enough for the Dons to end a wait of more than two decades for a win at Ibrox but they would have headed back to Pittodrie the happier of the two sides with the outcome.
Rangers made just one change from last week's win over St Johnstone, with goalkeeper Allan McGregor recovering from a thigh injury to reclaim the gloves, meaning Neil Alexander was back on the bench.
The Dons drafted Rory Fallon and Josh Magennis into the side in place of Andrew Considine and Mohamed Chalali, while Rory McArdle passed a late fitness test to start.
Nikica Jelavic - the subject of talks between Rangers and West Ham, as well as fresh speculation linking him with Liverpool - had a decent chance to open the scoring in the first couple of minutes.
The home side forced an early corner, which was whipped into the box by former Dons winger Sone Aluko, but the Croatian was off target with a header that dipped just over the crossbar.
At the other end, Ryan Jack slotted into the path of Magennis but his tame shot was comfortably collected by McGregor in the Rangers goal.
Rangers' best chance so far came when a header from Jelavic was pushed onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Jason Brown, before David Healy sent a thunderous effort across goal and past the post.
Aluko then forced his way past the Dons goalkeeper in the six-yard box but McArdle hooked to safety before Aluko could unleash the close-range shot and open the scoring against his previous team.
Rangers continued to push forward in search of the breakthrough before the interval and Edu teed up the shot for Lee Wallace but his effort swerved past the upright.
Former captain David Weir made a farewell appearance on the pitch at half-time and was presented with a commemorative gift from chairman Craig Whyte to mark his service to the club over the last five years.
Once the second half was under way, Aluko threaded into the path of new skipper Steven Davis and he delivered a teasing ball into the box but a full stretch Jelavic could not find the target.
A corner from Aluko then found Dorin Goian in the packed goalmouth but the big defender failed to keep his header down and the effort fell over the crossbar.
The Dons had a great chance of their own when McGregor fumbled a corner and Carlos Bocanegra cleared off the line but the visitors were ahead after 63 minutes when Arnason met a Chris Clark ball and curled past the Rangers goalkeeper.
The Scottish champions were back on level terms just four minutes later when the ball broke for Edu to rifle high into the top corner of the net.
Rangers had received a massive lift from the equaliser and Edu could have grabbed his second of the day with less than 10 minutes to go.
The American midfielder raced onto a great pass from Jelavic before producing a well-struck shot that whistled inches past the post.
Kyle Bartley then bulleted a header over from a Gregg Wylde cross and Aluko forced a superb save from Brown but Rangers could not find the winner.
"Will David Moyes be able to turn it around at Ma..."
