Match Preview

McCoist hoping Rangers flair up Rangers manager Ally McCoist has backed his players to show what they are made of for remainder of the season now they are no longer under pressure to deliver the title. The Light Blues were confirmed as Irn-Bru Third Division champions last week, despite being held to a 0-0 draw at Montrose, after nearest rivals Queen's Park suffered defeat to Elgin City. The stalemate at Links Park followed another drab goalless affair against Stirling Albion the previous week and McCoist is well aware that Rangers stumbled over the line in the end. But, as they prepare to travel to Hampden on Sunday to face Queen's, he is hoping to witness some of the flair that has been missing in recent matches. He said: "You could make an argument that they could maybe start producing - and I don't mean to be cheeky. "Definitely the last two or three performances haven't been of the standard we would want. We certainly haven't been potent in front of goal. "I'm really hoping, now that we have won the title, a little bit of pressure might have been lifted off some of the younger boys." With defender Ross Perry back in contention, Lee McCulloch could lead the line after a spell shoring up the defence, with McCoist again bemoaning a lack of forward options in recent outings. He said: "You can see the team that we played in the last couple of games. When we're looking at youth squads to fill numbers on benches, it's not ideal. "We don't really have a centre-forward. I could understand the crowd's frustration at the weekend, when they wanted us to go two up-front, but sadly we don't have two centre-forwards to play up-front. It is that simple. "I'm just hoping at the weekend there is a little bit of pressure lifted off the lads going back to the national stadium. "It's a place where the club has enjoyed enormous success over the years and hopefully we can just go and enjoy ourselves now and play with more attacking flair and confidence." Youngster Lewis Macleod continues to make good progress after suffering knee ligament damage in January. McCoist would love to see the talented midfielder back in action before the end of the season but admits club medics may block the comeback. He said: "The good news is that Lewis Macleod ran by me on the training park, as most of them do nowadays. "The fact he was out running was a real bonus. "He's got a chance but I know how precious our medical staff are and I can totally understand that they might see it as pointless taking a risk with four or five games to go. "But I would love to see the wee man back because I think he deserves a run out and a round of applause from the fans for his services this year." Queen's Park defender Jamie Brough, sent off the last time the sides met at the National Stadium, is struggling to make this one with an ankle injury. Allan Urquhart is out with a knee injury, but Tony Quinn is available after a hip problem and Sean Burns could also make it after an ankle injury. Head coach Gardner Speirs said: "Our aim is to go out and pose Rangers problems. "We keep on getting told that we are the only Third Division team not to score against them this season and it would if we could be good put that right. "We are not assured of a play-off place yet and the sooner we are the happier we will be. Getting something from Rangers would help that." end
