Match Preview

Striker Smith doubtful for Spiders Queen's Park striker Craig Smith is a doubt for the Scottish Third Division clash with Elgin. Smith picked up a groin injury at training on Thursday night and may not be fit enough to feature for the hosts. Meanwhile, long-term injury victims Tony Quinn, Michael O'Hara, Giuseppe Capuano and Steven Baillie miss out again as they have not had enough match practice following their return to fitness. The Spiders` head coach Gardner Speirs has warned his men that Elgin will be out for revenge after the Hampden side knocked them out of the Scottish Cup. Speirs said: "Elgin will be keen to make up for that one and move above us in the table. They have dangerous strikers and they have added a couple of new players this week so we need to be at our best to win." Elgin will include new signings Mark Durnan and Paul McMullan in their matchday squad when they head to the National Stadium to face Queen's Park on Saturday. The Borough Briggs men welcome back goalkeeper Zander Clark after suspension, but they will be missing Paul Kaczan and Steven Edwards through knocks while midfielder Blair Lawrie is unavailable due to work commitments. Manager Ross Jack said: "We started really badly in the Scottish Cup replay and gave ourselves a mountain to climb after going two goals down. "We got our promotion push going again last week with a win over East Stirling and intend to keep it going with a win at Hampden that would make some amends for our November defeat."

Match Report

Longworth bags four Jamie Longworth scored four as Queen's Park hammered Elgin 6-0 to cement their place in the Scottish Third Division play-off places. A superb Martin McBride free-kick gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes before half-time. Longworth scored his first after 53 minutes when his right-footed strike found the top corner and the striker netted his eighth of the season with a header 14 minutes later. He completed his hat-trick soon after with a crisp effort from the edge of the box. A powerful drive found its way past Alexander Clark in the away goal with 12 minutes remaining as he added his fourth and Queen's Park's fifth. Craig Smith's firmly planted header rounded off a profitable afternoon for Gardner Speirs' side who are now in touching distance with Annan Athletic with a game in hand.
