Match Preview
Smith rules out complacency Dundee boss Barry Smith has promised not to take Queens Park lightly in their Scottish Communities League Cup tie. The Dark Blues head for Hampden for their second round tie as strong favourites to chalk up their first win of the new season against their Third Division hosts. Smith's side have already survived a scare against lowly Peterhead in the first round, when they were taken all the way to a penalty shoot-out before securing their place in the next round. And Smith said: "We are giving Queens Park every respect. "We know this has the makings of a very difficult tie so the last thing we would do is take it for granted. "That's not how we go about our business and we've already had Queens watched as part of our preparations. "It's never easy going to play lower-league opposition in the cup and this tie will be no different. "It's important we get through into the next round, which the players know so we're going there hopefully to do a job." Dundee have yet to score from open play in five games so far this season but Smith is refusing to panic over their lack of goals. He said: "It would be worse if we weren't creating chances. "I'm sure the goals will come if we keep plugging away and carry on doing the right things. "I'm confident in the boys' ability. We are creating openings so we've just got to take the chances which come our way. "Queens will be just as motivated as Peterhead were when we played them in the earlier round. "We've got to match them for hard work and enthusiasm which I'm sure we'll do. "It would be nice for the club to get a run in the cup so we hope this can give us a platform to do so." Third Division Queen's Park will give Tony Quinn a late fitness test to see if he can play as the long-serving striker is struggling with a calf problem. Defender Richard Sinclair is unavailable and midfielder Michael Keenan sustained a knock in Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Peterhead and is also rated doubtful. Head coach Gardner Speirs is telling his men to play their natural game. He said: "We put in a great effort to knock out Airdrie, a First Division side, in the first round, so we will go out with the same approach in this game. "We know it will be a huge job to defeat Dundee but we will go out and play our usual attacking game and see where that takes us."
